Lazy Sunday Afternoon

We woke up and went to church this morning.  I had forgotten they were having a chilli supper afterwards for the youth group, but it worked out great because I had forgot Saturday night to put the roast in the fridge to thaw and we were too hurried this morning to think about putting it and the veggies into the crock pot.

After church, I went by a lady's house to pick up a much awaited for bread maker.  She was offering it on a local trading website for $20.00!  So I called her today on the way home and picked it up.  It has no box but has the book to it.  So I will be looking up some bread baker recipes this week and trying it out.  If any of you have any good recipes, please feel free to share them with me here!!!!

After we got home, hubby and I laid down for a nap while Noah took a nap in his room.  I felt kinda lazy doing this, but pastor's sermon today was on busy or hurry-itis and how we never take the time to refresh ourselves in the word of God and sleep, taking some "me" time daily, etc.  He has a good point!!!  How many kids today have almost every single moment of their day scheduled with school, after school activities, etc. etc.  When I was a kid, we played outside, not on the computer or playstation, gameboy, etc.  And we didn't have alot of outside toys either!!!  A ball and maybe a swing set if you were lucky.  Mine was only swings....no slide, nothing else.  And you know what else??? We made up our own games to play as we went along.  We played in the dirt and made mud pies.  We made up games using three rocks and a stick, or changed the rules for baseball to suit ourselves.  When did this become a thing of the past???  So pastor has challanged us to a media diet.  We are to turn off the tv, put down the magazines, and such for the month of February.  We don't have to go cold turkey, just turn them off sometimes and spend some quiet time with God, whether that be while taking a hot bath, or a solitude time of devotions with him in the mornings.  He suggests we do the same with our children.  I am excited!!!   So after my nap, although still feeling a little groggy, I did feel refreshed and ready to finish the last load of laundry and spend some time with my family!!!

I made peanut butter cookies and berry muffins this weekend.  Oh my those muffins smelled good!!  We will munch on them during the week for breakfast, but the cookies are going to work with Matthew!!!  HE does this so they are not so much of a temptation for me.  I love to bake and he loves it when I do, but if they stay around here, I am afraid I will eat all of them in one day!!!  You girls know what I mean! LOL

I sat down and redid my month of March menu planner tonight.  We have decided to do leftovers on Mondays and crockpot meals on Sundays so we don't make an excuse to just eat out on the way home like we have done in the past.  We will still occassionally stop for a meal out, but it isn't going to be every week any longer!  Wednesday is church night, and Thursday is our Home Group night (a Bible study at a friend of ours....they provide babysitting and we have about 20 there on a busy evening), so we need to have a quick supper on those nights.  So I have rearranged some soup nights and 15 minute meals on those evenings, as well as some crock pot suppers.  I think it will work better the way I have it arranged now, so I am happy with it.  Matthew is happy as long as there is food.  LOL  He is so sweet and understanding on those nights when I have had a headache all day or not feeling well with fending for himself, or with my scheduled breakfast nights where he fixes homemade biscuits and gravy, or pancakes for dinner.  We all love those evenings.

I had a blessed weekend spent with family, and on Saturday spent with a girlfriend at my house to eat supper and watch movies.  Today I spent time with the Lord and with my church family as well.  Who could ask for a better weekend.  Not all the dishes got done, there are towels in the basket to be folded and I still have to get the trash collected for tomorrow mornings trash pickup in the morning, but oh well.  The work will be there tomorrow!!  Those precious moments were worth the extra work tomorrow!!!  I didn't want the busy-itis bug to hit me and not have some time with my boys this weekend (hubby and our toddler),so I took advantage of the time God gave me and the people he placed directly in my life.

I hope all of you had a wonderful weekend!!!

God's Blessings,

Amy Jo

Your weekend sounds perfect to me! I need to borrow that term, "busy-itis," to describe myself sometimes, but not today! This Sabbath was a wonderful day of rest.
God bless! Mistypearl
