SNOW DAY!!!

Ok, I am not in school and our little one is still too young for school, but it is still a snow day for the area schools.  My friend has 7 of her 8 children at home today trying to keep them occupied because they are home for the second day in a row without school.

After hearing her kids bustling around the house, it make me think of my own childhood and going to public school and praying, absolutely begging God for a snow day or two that year.  LOL  They were like mini vacations for us.  Mom would make us breakfast and bake all day long (or so it seemed to us), while we went outside and played in the snow.  I couldn't understand as a youngster why they called off snow because of the snow.  I was out in it for hours and yeah it was cold, but never too cold to not go outside and play after having hot cocoa and bundling up!!!  LOL  We would make snow forts and igloos with the neighborhood kids and my friends parents would take turns calling us kids in for snacks and hot cocoa!!!  It was the best.

The best thing though was sledding down the big hill at school.  You see I lived right beside the school on the same block.  So all the kids in the neighborhood would bring a snow tube or sled and we would sled down the hill, tumble and roll down the hill till it was dark out.  LOL  We found out the more people or weight on the sled, the faster it went.  What a joy to make snow angels and snowmen in the snow too.  My mom always had the carrots.  Isn't that funny that I remember such simple facts about it like that??

Out little man will be two in April and already he has shown alot of interest in the snow and loves to walk and listen to the crunching underneath him.  I can't wait to watch him grow up and have the fun in the snow, making angels and snowmen, sledding and building forts and igloos as I did when I was little.  It is wonderful to watch him grow up and develop his personality and likes and dislikes!

So, what is one of your memories from a snow day when you were younger???

God's Blessings,

Amy Jo

Amy Jo ~~

We are enjoying the snow today as well......it is so sunny and beautiful and c-o-l-d!!!

My favorite snow memories of growing up in Seattle -- and yes seattle does get snow from time to time, especially years back when they weather wasn't so crazy messed up....... we lived at the top of a big hill and we would spend all day sledding down that big hill! Oh we would have loads of fun!!!

I love to see my kids enjoying themselves in the snow!

Blessings~~

Oh, if you *don't* have a memory of sledding down a big hill when you were a child, then I would have to say that you were deprived! Definitely, the big hill on my flexible flyer sled, sometimes with mom or dad riding along.

I only have a couple of memories of snow because I was raised in Las Vegas, NV. We did have snow when I was in the 5th grade and it stuck to the ground. We were thrilled. Nice post. Brenda

Hey. My best memory of a great snow day was when I was very young. Back in the early seventies, around 74 or 75,, we had a snow and ice storm down here that kept everyone home for a few days. Since my Grandmother was the only one with gas heat and a way to cook, we all piled on two tractors and went to her house. All of the kids got to go out and romp, and Mama Connie fixed a huge pot of hot chocolate. I remember coming in to the house, freezing, hands and toes numb, and her pouring out cups and cups of her home-made treat for us. It was so wonderful, with marshmallows and so much love in every sip!
We all spent the night, camped out in quilts on the floor and couches. She told us stories of when she had been a young girl, and how she and her family had once been snowed in for almost a week. I remember thinking, that if she had had as much fun as I had at her home, it must have been fantastic!

Amy Jo,
It is snowing here and my guys are very sad that it isn't a school day! However, they are quite enjoying themselves. I remember praying for snow days on test days when I was growing up!
Have a blessed weekend.

We've been to Jamesport before - we live in that area (KC - sort of close). Snow memories - making snow angels, snowball fights, sledding, fox & geese in the snow, making snow igloos - it's all fun. I enjoyed today walking our dog around outside in the snow - 11 degrees, but sunny & not windy. I also love your half apron of jeans & ruffle! Jill

Snow Days, what is that? I grew up in Louisiana! We had a light snow one year, oh about '76 or so. We built a very small snowman on the back of our car.
My best snow memories have been since I have grown up and had children. We have lived in Tennessee and Kentucky and Arkansas and had snow in each place. So we have some great memories of the kids sledding down the hills around our house in Kentucky. Three years ago right after we moved here to Arkansas we got a fairly good snow, but nothing like we had seen in Kentucky and Tennessee.
