In our family, we decorate the weekend of Thanksgiving for the upcoming Christmas holiday, and take it all down on New Year's Eve. I am not concerned about it being the "exact day" but this is what we try to do every year. Now, I am not trying to say that anyone who does it differently is wrong. NO way! Each of us have our own beliefs, faily traditions, convictions, etc.
However, the other day I was in a nearby larger town, doing some shopping (by myself even....it was glorious! LOL) and drove by a large house that was all dekced out for Christmas still. In the window was a large, probably 7-8 foot tree decorated with multi-colored lights and ornaments for the whole world to see. And the outside of the house had bows and poinsettas and lights as well. It was a beautiful site, I must say!
But it made me wonder, if they had forgotten to take it down, or if something happened that made they delay taking down Christmas (a death or illness in the family, etc) of if they were keeping them up for personal or religious reasons. I know some people keep their houses decorated all year round! It isn't for me by any means, but I know some love it.
And this made me think....about how so many celebrate Christmas....Christ's birth as the Christians see it.......only one day, or one month out of a whole year! Perhaps keeping the tree up reminds this family to keep Jesus in their sights, thoughts and praises all year long. I am not to judge why they do this. I understand this completely, and I am not trying to do so. Just wondering, and thinking.
