The Cole Homestead

It's all in how you look at it

Our local Wal Mart is small and pretty well out of date.  But it's major draw for our community was its craft dept.  There is no other place for crafts and fabric for over an hour away.  Well they announced Monday that they are taking the whole craft dept out to make room for, get this... frozen foods.  We have 2 major grocery stores in our town, another 10 minutes away, another 20.  We need fabric and crafts.  So many quilters, dress makers and even the kids need this.  No where else to get yarn, craft paints, knitting needles, or even thread.  How sad.  My niece just received her first sewing machine this Christmas.  We don't have a lot of money to drive and hour away for a bit of fabric and thread.  How many others will not learn because there is not the tools needed?

But there is an up side.  Everything has an upside it just depends on how you look at it.  Since the dept is leaving all of their fabric is 1/2 off.  So I bought this years fabric and next years too.  Enough for 20 dresses for daughter and 10 skirts for me and enough flannel for wipes, pads and PJ's.  I will try not to think how much it will cost me in 2011.  Here is a pic of my sewing table.

I understand. We are a small community and Wal-Mart is the only store around here where you can buy craft supplies of any kind. Many Wal-Mart stores are closing because of other Craft stores nearby, but I haven't heard of one closing to open a frozen food section.

We are blessed with a Super Wal-Mart and a wonderful craft section. I don't know what I would do without being able to go to Wal-Mart at 11 pm for something I forgot to finish up a scrapbook or sewing project. LOL

God's Blessings,

Wal-Mart fabric

My mil works for Wal-Mart, and she says that several of their other stores are also getting rid of their fabric departments. I don't understand, because I always thought that part of walmart was great and generated a lot of business for the store. Their fabric was so much more reasonably priced than the big fabric stores. Go figure.

Just a thought...

Can you still order stuff online at other Wal-Marts and have it delivered to yours...the store to store thing? Then you don't have to pay shipping and you can still get the crafting things at the same low price? Another idea is that some ladies find web sites and order their stuff that way. Just a couple ideas. Sorry your store doesn't know the needs of your community there. I hope you still find great ways to do arts and crafts. *smile* Blessings.-me-(Mommy of two little blessings)
