Making Natural Skin Care

I have been making soap and skin care products for about 2 years now.  Of all the "hobbies" that I have developed over the years, this is truly one of the most enjoyable for me.  Homemade soap is like nothing you will ever find in a grocery or drug store!

In the past, I did not have very nice skin.  As a teenager, I developed terrible acne.  Even after it calmed down some, I would still get break outs at certain times during the month.  I also had very dry skin in the winter.  My legs would get scales and itch.  Now that I am in my thirties, I have to be concerned with preventing premature wrinkles...you know how it is.  Well, since I have been practicing good health and making my own skin care products and soap, my skin is actually very nice!  It really is.  I am instilling good habits into both my daughters.  I do hope that they can avoid the problems that I had as a teen.   Having acne is such an awful ordeal.  It is painful and embarrasing.  I remember days when I just did not want to leave the house because of a bad outbreak, not because of vanity because of the discomfort.

The most important factor, in my opinion, was the change in my diet.  Without that change, I would not be in the health that I am in today.  Even in my early twenties, I was already suffering from digestive troubles.  I actually had a colonoscopy done at 24!  Wow!  When I think about where I have been and where Yahweh has brought me, I am truly humbled.  He answered my prayers in ways that I never would have imagined.

So, anyway...back to the skin care.  Here are some very simple recipes for easy skin care cleansers that you can make in no time flat.  I would urge everyone to clean out the bathroom cupboards and closets!  Throw those drug store brand products in the trash!  The ingredient label should scare you!  Those chemical ingredients are absorbed into your skin and can cause a host of disorders and problems!

Easy Alpha Hydroxy Cleansing Scrub:  Take one cup of organic raw cane sugar and add 1/4 cup kosher vegetable glycerine or grapeseed oil.  Add a small pinch (1/8 teaspoon or less) citric acid.  Add 1-2 TB witch hazel.  Blend this well and add 1-2 drops of lavender essential oil and 1-2 drops of tea tree oil.  Mix this concoction together until it is like a thick syrup.  Keep it in a small glass or plastic jar.  Scoop out a small amount and use it to cleanse your skin at night before bed.  You may keep this refrigerated, however I have kept mine on my bathroom counter for a few weeks with no problem.  Great for premature wrinkles!

Easy Skin Tonic: Purchase a bottle of witch hazel at the drug store.  In a glass or plastic jar, pour the bottle of witch hazel and add one tsp. of vegetable glycerine, or a bit more for dry skin.  Shake well.  Add 1/2 cup of organic green tea and 3-4 drops of tea tree oil.  Shake well again.  Keep this refrigerated.  Use it after cleansing and before moisturizing.

I sell some awesome (if I may say so myself), organic goat milk body butter on my site.  A lighter facial cream will be added soon.  I do use the body butter on my face in the winter, though.  Creams and lotions are more difficult to make, but I will try to add some recipes soon.
