Did you know that kitchen medicinals can get even easier than making
tinctures, teas, and balms? That's right! Just add the
herbs to your meals! You can make almost any meal into a
healing food with the addition of some medicinal herbs.
Soups can be a wonderful option for those who are feeling
under the weather. Add some healing thyme, basil, oregano,
chervil, onions and garlic. All of these herbs will turn
your pot of soup into a powerful antibiotic meal!
Garlic and onions are two of the most potent medicinal
foods available. You would do your family good to begin
cooking with these on a regular basis. Garlic has been
succesful in fighting heart disease, dangerous blood clots,
and respiratory complaints. It is antiviral and
antibacterial! Onions also fight blood clots, lower blood
pressure, and lower high levels of blood fats. They are
also antiviral and antibacterial! Keep your pantry full of
these two medicinal foods. They can be added to so many
meals!
During a cold or respiratory infection, try cooking up a
homemade applesauce. Add raw honey, cinnamon and anise to the sauce
for an amazingly tasty cough remedy!
When the whole family is down with a bought of nausea or
"the stomach flu", try making some Chilled Peach Soup.
Puree about 5 large peaches with 2 cups of water. Add 3
tablespoons of raw honey, 2 teaspoons of cinnamon, 3 whole
cloves, 2 teaspoons of cornstarch or arrowroot flour.
(Dissolve the starch or flour in 1/4 cup of water before
adding to the pot.) Remove the cloves after simmering for
about 10 minutes. Chill the soup well. Whisk in 1/2 cup
of homemade yoghurt or kefir before serving.
During an illness, it is easy to get dehydrated and weak. The best way to combat both is by drinking healthy juices and broths. Blend 4 cups of tomato juice, 2 tablespoons of fresh lemon juice, some chopped celery, miced parsley, as much diced onion, garlic, and green pepper as you can handle, a teaspoon of sea salt, a teaspoon of kelp powder, 1/4 teaspoon of crushed celery seed and some oregano. Puree this in the blender at high speed until very smooth. Chill in the refrigerator for an hour or so. If you are suffering from congestion, add a teaspoon of cayenne pepper. Drink as much of this as you can throughout the day.
Don't wait until you are sick to begin cooking for good health! The healthier your diet, the less you'll need to worry about "sick days". But, when they do come...be prepared! We sell pre-mixed herbal blends for tinctures, infusions, and balms. Check us out at www.fromfieldsandgardens.com
