Our dog's name was not Jake but rather Dixie. This poem is in memory of her: after many years in our family, she was hit by a car on the road in front of our house today - we had to put her down. She was a good dog and loved farm life the most of any of us........... (I'll add a picture when I find one) Jake ( Ode To A Farm Dog )Jake oh Jake where have you been?
Chasing the cattle through meadow and glen? Or perhaps you've been out harassing the hen! Did you uproot a rabbit buried deep in its den? Jake oh Jake where did you go? Did you find an old bone and bury it just so? Were you down at the creek to flush a young doe? Maybe you fished in the pools down below. Jake Oh Jake the stories you could tell! Of old crows, vultures and fine bobwhite quail. With nose to the ground, straight up your tail Jake oh Jake the stories you could tell! Eric Nathan Jacobson

We were able to play around and have fun taking a family picture on Easter!!! We thought it looked fairly good so I'm sharing it Wayne is holding Micah in the front row. Brenda is the mom in the middle. Hannah is the big girl over on the right. Across the back is Andy, Sophia, Nathaniel and then Ben in the gold shirt. Hope your Easter was relaxing and enjoyable like ours. We had some fun family time! |

We've been up and at it already this morning. We were gone from the house by 8:30, drove 45 minutes one way - had a 5 minute orthodontic check for Hannah and then drove 45 minutes back home. We're glad that we're down to only every 6 months for this ortho thing!! Now I'm on to what's for supper?? LOL We're trying to deal with Wayne's boss telling him yesterday that he'll more than likely be layed off at the end of this week. I was in shock at first even though I knew it was a real possibility, I still had hope that it wouldn't happen. Just when we thought we had cut everything we thought we could, we need to find a way to cut more!! But... in my devotional book this morning I learned a new word: Jehovah-jireh; it means God will provide! So my new hope is "Jehovah-jireh"!!! Our nation, yes our world is quite a mess right now but Jehovah-jireh! Be blessed today this 14th day of April in the year of our Lord 2009! |

I always wonder why anyone would want to read my blog but I've had several people ask about what's happening at Freedom Acres Farm. So....I'm going to attempt to stay up to date. I'll do my best and see where it goes. I'd love to share recipes, gardening, frugal conversations and more....we'll see if I find the time with Spring upon us and the kids wanting to be outdoors. I guess I can type just as easily from my lawn chair as I can from my desk :-) Lately I've been tending my little seedling plants in our patio window. If all goes well, the plan is to have 30 Roma tomatos, 25 Celebrity tomatos, 5 cherry tomatos, 20 sweet peppers, 12 hot peppers, lots of radishes, carrots, onions, potatoes, beans, peas, pumpkins, grapes, strawberries, and cucumbers! Hopefully the weather will cooperate and God will bless our garden with abundance!! Here are a couple of pictures of my "babies". This morning I've been baking bread - can't beat it at a cost of less than $.60 a loaf and so tasty who wouldn't love doing this??? Here are today's loaves
And here is one of my little Sophia girl today then I must go get lunch - hope to keep you up-to-date on our farm here! |
