Ladybug's Garden

• Thursday, December 7, 2006 - What do you think?

I was listening to a local Christian radio station the other day and they were talking about a government building that put out Christmas items. They had the nativity scene but MISSING Mary, Joseph and baby Jesus. After a huge fuss they put them back in saying they didn't want to offend non Christians celebrating Christmas, so they ended up putting out a reindeer nearby the nativity scene for non Christians celebrating Christmas. A lawyer then made a comment saying legally if a government place puts out a nativity scene to keep out of trouble they have to include Santa, a snowman, etc.

This story got me thinking. How can people who are Non Christians celebrate Christmas? Isn't the celebrating Christmas the celebration of the birth of Jesus? Isn't that what they day is for? It may not be the day he was born, but it is the day set aside to give praise and remember Jesus birth. I just don't understand why some Non Christians want to take Jesus out of our holiday. If they are getting offended at the site of Jesus or anything relating to religion they need to understand this is what Christmas is about.

The commercialized comments that everyone should be allowed to celebrate Christmas bother me, it got me thinking a lot about this.  I don't celebrate Kwanzaa or Hanuka, I don't ask the people who do to take their festive things down so I wont be offended. When I see their items of celebration I am happy for them.

So what is it the sudden, and by sudden its been big the last few years to be anti Christian. I just don't get it. Feel free to add your thoughts. Its just mind numbing to me how closed minded people can be to something they don't agree with. I have seen more hate from people who are anti Christian, than Christians  trying to save people.

Non-Christians, like myself, celebrate another holiday that falls close to the same time as Christmas. My home celebrates Yule. My Family, who are Christians, celebrate Christmas. I respect everyone's choice to celebrate as they see fit. I don't get angry when I pass a Nativity scene. Nor do I throw a fit when I see Hanukah menoras or Kwanzaa candles or the umpteen other sentiments that appear this time of year.
Personally I wish people would be more open minded about my choice to celebrate Yule. I don't prosletize (sp) my religion, and because I believe differently people think I'm some horrible person. It hurts, ya know. Just because I believe something different doesn't mean I'm a bad person. I still have feelings too. Anyway, enough of my soapbox. I agree that people should be allowed to put anything they want on display for the holiday. They should be able to show their beliefs if they want. People shouldn't get offended.

Hi Anthea,
Thats for commenting. I agree with you. I don't think you are a bad person for celabrating Yule.

Just to be clear, the point of my post wasn't to make anyone who isn't Christian feel bad. I think people who aren't Christian don't understand the point of Christianity. I think people are afraid to come before God becasue of their past bad things they have done or have been apart of. For some reason they don't like asking for forgiveness. To admmit you did wrong is to much I guess. But God is about forgiving us and he doesn't beet us over the head when he can, he forgives and lets it go.

If you are a Bible Believing Christian, then you know that we are in the 'end times'. Satan knows his days are numbered and his 'number is about up'. SO he will do whatever he can to "kill, steal and destroy".

Too many "christians" have done little more than stand on the sidelines, wringing their hands, fretting and worrying about "am I going to offend someone"??
Those who are called by HIS Name should spend more time in the Word, and less time in the world, and then they would know who they truly were offending. Jesus is the offended one.....not all the other made up holidays that were created to draw attention AWAY from Christ and too themselves.

Scripture has all the answers. It really, really does.
