The Chickie-Chickies are In Their NEW HOME!!!!! (Pics)

Yesterday morning, my dad and brother brought me a wonderful, handmade chicken tractor!  It is BEAUTIFUL!
With Daniel's shoulder being out of commission, he has been unable to build the additional tractor that we desperately need for the chickie-chickies.  Look at how BEAUTIFUL this is!  It arrived at our house yesterday just before lunch!

As you can see...the chickie-chickies had out-grown their current home:

My dear husband has been home all week recovering from surgery, and we decided that the weather is going to be nice and warm enough today to move them OUTSIDE to this new tractor!!!  Look at that face!

We have 4 Barred-Rocks and 3 Arraucanas.  THe Arraucanas will be kept for layers, and the BRs will eventually become Breakfast, Lunch, Brunch and Dinner--as my husband likes to call them!  Here they are in their new home!

I am so excited!!  And I am sure that the chickie-chickies will be, too!

Because of Daniel's shoulder, he has not be able to build the new chicken tractor that we need for the cute little chickies living in our guest room.  So earlier this week, my brother and dad took pitty on us and BUILT a chicken tractor for us!!!

They live about an hour away...and he just called to say THEY ARE ON THE WAY!!!!  WHOOO HOOOO!!!
I can't wait to put the little ones outside!!!  And they are getting so big!

I PROMISE pictures this afternoon!

Ok, if you have NO interest in baby chicks or cute little fuzzy animals..the next few days on this blog are going to be VERY VERY boring for you.  I promise to post something non-chicky by Wednesday.  But for now...I HAVE to share another cute chick picture!

The chicks have now been wtih us for over 12 hours.  We have the lamp "just-so" and they seem to be "taking" to us just fine.

With the ZOOM on my camera, I HAD to get this pic of this ultra-cute Barred Rock SOUND asleep in the food dish.  I'm sorry...I couldn't help it!

I purchased these chicks at our local "Southern States" feed store for $2.49 each.  I could buy as many or as few as I like.

Avery

Just When I Think I Have it ALL Figured Out...

...the CHICKENS remind me that I don't!

So there I am, sitting at the kitchen table mulling over my new Amy Butler skirt pattern.  From behind me (at the front of teh house) I hear a chicken "cluck".  I reassure myself that the chickens are safe and secure pecking away in their BACK YARD!

But just to comfort myself, I get up and look.  There is not a chicken to be seen in our backyard.  Not a ONE!  I rush to the front door see this:

Yes, that's right!  There are FOUR CHICKENS Pecking away in my front yard. The FRONT YARD!!!!  And we live in a regular-type neighborhood...the houses are CLOSE.  Can you imagine what the people driving down my street must think?

Avery

Just Call Me...The Chicken Lady!

Good Morning!

A nice gentle rain greeted me as I stepped out to feed our chickens this morning.  Yes...OUR CHICKENS!!  When the pups and I went out this morning...their were our chickens--happy and content in their chicken tractor.

This picture was taken yesterday morning just after they arrived.

Yesterday, I took the pups out one-at-a-time LEASHED to meet the chickens.  Patches just wants thtem to PLAY and Annie Marie...well, she kept looking at me as to say, "Mom...what ARE they??"  After my lesson last night, husband and I took them both out together UNleashed.  What were YOU thinking????, you may be asking.

But...I was armed...with a SPRAYER HOSE!  So, one squirt at Annie Marie with the hose, and the chickens were no longer of interest to her.  Patches took a few squirts...and then was so upset that she went and stood BEHIND her Papa as to say, "Daddy, don't let Mama spray me, PLEASE!"

This mornign when we went out...the girls are interested in the chickens...but not THAT interested in them.  I can live with that.

We have FOUR chickens, 1 each of: Aruacana, Buff, New Hampshire Red, and Rhode Island Red.  To be honest, we don't really know a THING about chickens...but fortunately, my BFF (these are from her son) is a chicken/goat/cow farmer and is a WEALTH of information!

We were supposed to get them in August..but for one thing or another, the delivery was delayed and delayed. Now that they are FINALLY here....I am soooo excited!
