I am sooooooo excited!  After about 30 minutes of messing with my serger...it and I finally came to terms and it began to do what I wanted!

These Napkins and Wipes are made from Yellow-Print Flannel and Pink Flannel.  They were SOOOO easy!  I see making plenty of them in the future!  Hm...maybe add some to my website, but that is getting WAY ahead of myself!

Here...for ALL to see, is my FIRST SERGER PROJECT!!!  Whooo hoooo!

And a close-up of the fabrics!

What do y'all think?

Excitement Today: My Serger, a Fixed Machine...and 2 Packages!

{ 07:24 , Tuesday, February 3, 2009 } { Posted in Sewing } { 1 comments } { Link }
What a beautiful day!  We woke up this morning to a light dusting of snow...but nothing worth calling Mom about.  I was up until 3am this morning...and had a hard time getting out of bed.  BUT, I had told my friend Susan I would be at her house between 9 and 10 to pick up a loaf of bread.  So, I dragged my tukas out of bed, and away I went.

At lunch-time, my friend Mr S came over...and worked a miracle.  Ok, so maybe not a MIRACLE...but it sure was NICE!  I am participating this month in a sewing "Stash Game" on www.sewingmamas.com . She who sews the most and buys the least...wins!  Well, I have quite a bit of sewing that I NEED to do...and some of it requires a zigzag stick, a button-holer or a serger (those pretty knits).  My dear machine--a 1956 Singer Straight-Stitch--has none of those.

I DO have a Serger, but am terrified of it!  Today...Mr S properly threaded the Serger AND corrected teh tension so that I can begin making cloth napking and cloth "papertowels" tomorrow!!!  YEAH!!!  And it gets better!

My mother has/had an old Bernetta that she gave me.  She stopped using it when she purchased her new Pfaff.  Well, unfortunately, I found out WHY she stopped using it....it DIDN'T WORK!!!  After fixing my serger (which I have owned for 6 YEARS and NEVER used), Mr S takes the Bernetta apart and FIXES IT!!!!!!!!  I am sew excited!!!!

Yes, Mr S IS wearing TWO coats in my house while fixing my machine!!!  For the Stash Game, I now have a machine with a button-holer AND a working Serger!!!!  EXCITEMENT!!!

Oh, the two packages today....one was a package of some COMPLETELY fun fabric I purchased in January to use for the Stash Game.  And the other was FULL of toys and games from Germany!!!  Serveral "practical" games will be going up on my www.forthekeeperathome.com site tomorrow!!!

This has just been such a GREAT DAY!!!!!!  I can't see what blessings the Lord brings my way tomorrow!!!

Avery

Chickens, A New IRON, Sewing and Ooga Booga!

{ 07:46 , Thursday, October 23, 2008 } { Posted in Sewing } { 3 comments } { Link }

Good mornign!

And what a BEEE-U-TIFUL morning it is!  Chilly, but not COLD.  Clear and wiht a sligh breeze!  After fighting the urge to stay snuggled under the covers, I got out of bed and saw husband off to work.  Ok, so I wouldn't have actually STAYED in bed...but the thought DID cross my mind!

The chickens have been with us a week now.  And so far, so good!  We did some "hose training", and fo teh most part, Annie Marie stays away completely from the tractor.  Poor Patches, on the other hand, is spending quite a bit of time in her crate for teasing/terrorizing the chickens.  She says, "But Mama, I just want to PLAY!"  I know, honey.  Tonight, when husband gets home, we will let the hens free-range in the yard for about 15 minutes or so...dog in-house!

I have been FIGHTING the urge to continue buying fabric/patterns when I can't SEW THEM!  Oh, did I tell y'all that I FINALLY found the missing iron?  Sans CORD!?!?!?  A friend has offered to fix the iron for me, and I will probably take him up on that.  However, I broke down and went Iron-Shopping!  I must be living in a cave, because I didn't know that Linens N' Things in going out of business!  But, to be honest, the sale wasn't that great.  Only 10% off, and NO RETURNS.

After hemming and hawing in the store for 20 minutes, I put down the Black & Decker Iron I was HOLDING and went next door to Target!  For teh SAME PRICE, I purchased the SAME IRON AND can return it if need-be.  Here is my NEW IRON: http://preview.tinyurl.com/6csrfl  Excitement!!!

Today, I SEW!  I need to iron my fabric and plan to get at least ONE jumper made today.  I would love to start working on husband's pajama pants, but those may have to wait.

One last thing, I have joined a sewing coop, and thing very rare and adorable fabric has come up for buy.  I am sooooo tempted to purchase some, but can't for the life of me, figure out WHAT I would DO with it!  Oh, and I can't decide if I should purchase some fo the cream or the blue.  What do y'all think?

Avery

Jumper Patterns, Fabric Shopping...and...one BIG dog!

Good Afternoon!

It seems so rare that I write in the afternoon.  Writing in the morning just after husband goes to work seems so refreshing and such a great way to start the day.  This morning, while doing listing some pets for my www.LittlestPetShopFigures.com site early this mornig, my friend called and said, "We're still going to the Post Office this morning, right?"  Whoops!  Completely forgot!  But we went...quick trip, right?  WRONG!

After the Post Office, there was teh Target!  TARGET!  Whooo hooo!  Didn't really find anything...except, a loaf of Pepperidge Farm Cinnamon Swirl bread.  I know, I SHOULD have kept walking.  But it had been a LONG time AND I was hungry.  BAD combination.  So the Cinnamon Swirl bread came home with me and joined a very good cheesy-scrambled egg to make my 10am breakfast.

Yesterday...I ventured into Hancocks Fabric...with MONEY!  Why? Oh, Why???  $52 later, I emerged with FOUR new patterns, 6 YARDs of Fabric, 1 spool of thread and a tracer set.  What was I thinking?  Oh, yeah...I was thinking of making myself a JUMPER and husband a pair of comfy pajama-pants for Christmas.  I really like the nightgown pattern, but want to figure out how to make it WITHOUT the lace around the neck.  Any ideas?

Here are my purchases:

 I will be sewing the nightgown on the left.

  I am really excited about this pattern!  I will be making the pajama pants for husband for Christmas.  If they turn out to be easy enough, I would like to make him a few pairs...and then maybe some for my dad.

Oh, and here is the GREAT fabric I found for husband's pajama pants in flannel (pattern above):

After breakfast, I had planned to start the dishwasher, fold the jeans, run the washing machine...and start CUTTING PATTERN PIECES!  But that is not to be...for the moment.  While having breakfast, I thought I saw the dog from next door, um, "getting it on" with my Annie Marie.  Upon further look, yep, that's what was going on.  So, I called her and Patches to come in, and he wanted to follow them in the house.  Needless to say, until his people come home and he leaves my yard, my girls aren't going back out.  So....I don't have my floor to work on.  :-(

So a of right now, when I look out my upstairs window into my yard, this is the beautiful face that looks up at me:

He IS beautiful and sweet...just in MY yard!  I really hope his people come home soon!  There is almost ALWAYS someone home next door.  Hmph.

Well, not to replan my day.  I still have laundry and dished that need to be done.  If I clean off the kitchen table, I can probly cut the patterns out in there.  I am soooo excited!

Avery

Buying Some Sewing Patterns...Like I Need More! (Advice, Please!)

{ 07:48 , Thursday, October 2, 2008 } { Posted in Sewing } { 4 comments } { Link }

Good Morning!

It is a BEAUTIFUL brisk morning here in NC.  Cool enough to need to snuggle-up under the covers (with my beloved, of course!), but NOT cold enough to turn on the heat!    Every year, it's a challenge for us to see HOW LONG we can go without turning on the heat.  Usually, our goal is to make it to at least the 1st of November.  We do have 2 space-heaters...and are not afraid to USE them...ok, confession...have one going behind me now!

This morning, after sending my beloved off to work, I sat down and started pattern shopping.  Sure, I need ONE MORE sewing pattern to enter my house...but I do!  Really.  Ok, no I don't...but we'll pretend I didn't say that.  I am looking for an extremely simple and WARM jumper pattern, as well as a SKIRT pattern.  I like both LONG, even though I am very short.

I am very much open to any suggestions.    Does anyone have a sewing routine that they do (like you sew only on Thursday morning)?  Any favorite patterns that they have made so many times they can do it in their sleep?  How about sewing for the home?  There seems like soooo much to do!

On a side note, for those of you who are waiting for the Above Rubies magazines to be listed in our store...I PROMISE they will be going up TODAY!  I Found MORE yesterday...and am going through to see which ones will be listed...and which I will KEEP!

Your Sister in Christ,

Avery
