I can't believe it...here I am in the MIDDLE of JUNE!!!  And nary a post in almost a MONTH!!!

We went to Michigan for Memorial Day weekend to visit my dad, his wife and my grandfather.  We were in the car for TWO days...in order to visit for TWO DAYS.  Needless to say, when I came home...I SLEPT for THREE DAYS!  :-)

I have a TON of pictures that I want to show y'all...and stories to tell.  But it seems that the days and the HEAT just get away with me.

Tomorrow, I will post some picture of our trip AND I will be beginning a NEW QUILT!!!  I will post some pictures of fabric and progress.  For an idea of what I will be doing, here is a link to the Quilt-A-Long: http://oldredbarnco.blogspot.com/2009/05/quilt-along-schedule-of-events.html

Whatcha thinking about Monday?

{ 07:40 , Monday, May 4, 2009 } { Posted in Just Another Day } { 1 comments } { Link }
Surprisingly enough, I think Monday has its advantages.  It's the beginning.  A new opportunity for success this week!  A new opportunity to exercise EVERY day, get ALL the laundry done and FINALLY finish that skirt I've been working on for 3 weeks.

See what I mean?

That is what I love about Mondays.  (Be right back...Patchie is saying, "Mommy, PULLLLLEEEZZZEEE let us outside.")

Today is Laundry Day.  Yep.  I would love to get ALL the winter stuff packed away, but let's not get TOO ambitious.  Last week, I spent several days organizing the bulk food shelves and the tupperware shelves.  This week...I'm taking on the.....FRIDGE!  Yes, it's true.

Sewing this week:
  • MUST MUST MUST finish skirt
  • Sew new purse
That all seems easy enough.  And, I also need to devise a menu plan....AFTER our grocery shopping has been completed for the week.  Ah...a challenge!  Bring it on!

Our weekend was PACKED!  We did our normal Farmer's Market-The Fresh Market run.  Then we paused in our schedule to have a birthday lunch for Wesley with him and Claudia!  :-)  Then off to the Earth Fare!

I love talking to people!  One time in my life, I actually had a job at a Call Center...it was PERFECT!  Grocery shopping on Saturday is not just a "chore" we do each week...it's our Social Event of the WEEK!  We stop and talk at each of our "stops".  But one of my FAVORITE "chats" is Frank the Butcher.

And this week, we had a real treat!  While Frank was eating lunch, we were able to sit and chat for almost an HOUR!  Daniel enjoyed the "hockey talk" and I was excited to get to learn more about our friend!

Near the end of our time with Frank, Christina called and said she, Ezra and the children were on their way. SURPRISE!  :-D  The best kind!  They met us at the house and then we all took off to the state-run Farmer's Market.  WHAT FUN!!!  After we all wore-out, we came home to rest and play.  Ezra mowed our front lawn (THANK YOU!!!) and Christina was able to get a small nap in.

After supper, they headed home. And my night didn't end there!  (But the story ends here.)  Okay...I'll tell this: I didn't get in bed until 3:30 SUNDAY MORNING!

Sunday was a "home" day.  Even though Daniel's BODY is recovering well, his pain has not yet subsided.  His sleep is fitfull and he spent his Sunday...resting the best he could.

Your Sister in Christ,

Avery

Pathetic Puppies, S.W.A.P. and Kitchen Organization!

{ 08:24 , Friday, May 1, 2009 } { 2 comments } { Link }
Daniel has gone back to work.  HE is so excited!  Sure, he hasn't listened to a work I have said about "taking it easy"...but he's happy.  Patches Jean on the other hand is so sad, it's almost heart-breaking.

Here's a happier puppy last night with her Papa.  Notice how she is LAID-out so long.  Yes...that is where I am supposed to sleep!  Between Patches Jean and the extra pillows we have on the bed for Daniel's shoulder...I'm not really sure where I am supposed to sleep!  :-)

This week has been a busy one for me.  Monday, I acquired the "kitchen cleaning" bug.  And it hit with a VENGENCE.  Now, after 2 loads of dishes PER DAY and reorganizing the "bulk food" shelves...I'm still no where near done.  I was to completely re-vamp the Tupperware cupboards and our Lazy Susan.  But at least there's been SOME progress!

Today, May 1st, is the beginning of two sewing challenges in which I am participating!  I really like the site http://www.sewingmamas.com/b  The forum is filled with great sewing ideas, instruction and fabulous women!  For May, two sewing challenges are being held.

The first is a Stash Game.  Simply put, you receive points for sewing from fabric already in your "stash".  You also receive points for notions use, UFOs and such.  FUN!

Second...this one is exciting for me!  This is Sewing Mamas first-ever "Sewing With a Plan" contest!  Each sewer will be completing a wardrobe that has to include:

Mama SWAP Rules
Any member may enter one time in this category
12 garments that coordinate
2 pairs of pants (or skirts if you don't wear pants)
2 additional bottoms (capris, pants, skirts, shorts etc)
4 simple tee shirt type tops
2 non tee shirt type tops
1 dress (or be creative if you don't wear dresses. If you create something that's an alternative that's okay, but it has to be comparable and it's up to you to decide what that is)
1 simple cardigan, coat, sweater or pull over
Child SWAP Rules (sizes 4 and up)
Any member may enter one time in this category
12 - 16 garments that coordinate
2 pairs of pants (or skirts if they don't wear pants)
2 additional long 'bottoms' (pants, long skirts) OR 4 additional shorts/capris
4 simple tee shirt type tops
2 non tee shirt tops
1 dress (or be creative if they don't wear dresses. If you create something that's an alternative that's okay, but it has to be comparable and it's up to you to decide what that is)
1 simple cardigan, coat, sweater or pull over
I will be participating in the "Mama Swap".  Just thing, 4 new skirts AND matching tops!  I am looking forward to summer now!  The only item that really scares me is having to make a jacket, bolero or sweatshirt.

My pattern and fabric stashes are not what I wish they were.  But I have to start somewhere!  My first item for the Stash Game will be to complete a skirt I started last month.  And for the SWAP with be THIS dress:  http://www.candleonthehill.net/store/catalog.php?item=20  Husband even purchase teh FIVE yards of fabric needed for our Anniversary!  How sweet!

Well, I'm not going to get much done hanging out on the computer!  I'll post update pictures as I sew!

Avery

We Have Met Our Isabella!!! PICS~

{ 09:43 , Wednesday, April 22, 2009 } { 2 comments } { Link }
I am almost giddy with excitement!  We have met our Isabella...and I can't WAIT for her to come home!

My dear husband has enacted a "3 Pet Limit" rule at our house.  Chickens and any pets that live in cages don't count towards the limit.

My dear Charlie Emerson had to be put down last year when an issue with his (boy parts) could not be resolved.  And I have ached for a cat/kitten ever since.  I LOVE my dogs.  LOVE them.  But there is just something about a cat sitting on your lap...or your head in the middle of the night! :-)

We went to my BF Claudia's house on Saturday night...and met our Isabella.  I wanted to name her "Isabelle" so that I could call her "Issy".  However, Daniel wants to call her "IsabellA" so we can call her "Bella".

She is only 2.5 weeks...so we have a month until she comes home...and I CAN"T WAIT!
(Please forgive my horrible look in the pics.  These pics were taken about midnight...just as we were about to head out the door.)

Avery

What a Weekend! And Happy Anniversary to ME! (Thur-Fri)

{ 01:02 , Sunday, April 19, 2009 } { Posted in Just Another Day } { 2 comments } { Link }
Today...I have been married FIVE YEARS!!!!!  FIVE YEARS!

This has been quite the weekend!  For a man who is SUPPOSED to be laying-down and resting...his wife sure keeps him busy!  :-)  As most of you know, my husband had surgery on his left shoulder 2 weeks ago to remove some bone spurs.  He will be home for one more week.

He is SUPPOSED to be resting and keeping ice on his shoulder every hour.  However, his nurse (me), is NO Clara Barton...and he gets ice when he says, "Honey...will you go get the ice pack?"  Yep...sad.  So, on Thursday, I look in the bedroom to see THIS:
Let me explain a little.  I sleep with a Care Bear.  Her name is "Love-a-Lot".  So, I want into the bedroom.  EVERYONE is asleep: Daniel, Annie Marie, Patches Jean and Love-a-Lot.  And she has the icepack on her head.  I shake Daniel a little bit.  "Honey, why is Love-a-Lot wearing your ice pack on her HEAD?"  He rolls over, and mumbles, "She told me she had a headache."  And back to sleep he went!  Loving that Percocet!  :-)

We had an exciting moment on Wednesday evening!  One of our girls gave us the BIGGEST chicken egg we have EVER SEEN!!!  I was over 3 inches HIGH and 2 inches wide!
Daniel, of course, decided we needed to EAT it!  So, Thursday morning he cracked it open to find....TWO YOLKS!  How cool is that!

Thursday afternoon we went to Wake Forest to see Ma'ma and go to a new Chiropractor.  She was so sweet and kind.  And ready for THIS....only $20 EACH!  $20!  That was it!  Yeah!!  I loved our last Chiropractor, but he was $68...and that was with his "I feel sorry for you b/c you don't have insurance" price.

Friday...what can I say about Friday.  It was LONG!   First, we drove west to Winston-Salem to go to Daniel's office (45 minutes).  Then, we turned north-east and drove to Yanceyville. (1.25 hours)  In YCV, is a sweet bulk-foods store--Yoder's Market (www.yodersmart.com).  They now have a lunch counter.  And the sandwhiches are pretty good!  Our DEAR friends, Ezra and Christina, were able to come for lunch and bring their ADORABLE brood.  Christina is the sister that and I never had!  And their girls...our nieces!
We only had an hour with them because Ezra had to go back to work...but WHAT FUN!!
After lunch, Uncle Danny treated the girls to some ice cream!  This is Amber (3):
Ezra with Bethanny (20 mo).  Look at those smiles!

"Uncle" Danny and Catelynn (7)!

And a Group shot just before they had to leave!

After they left, Daniel and I did our shopping at Yoder's.  Then, we left to go visit a local family with whom we used to attend church. Their 12 year old daughter had a mini-barn fall on her back and break her pelvis in 3 places!

We stayed with them until almost 5 o'clock and then drove home.  It was a LONG day!  I am sure that we had supper...but I couldn't tell you what it was, or if I even ATE!

The rest of the weekend has been GREAT...but I'll tell you about those in my next post.  Oh, should I tell you that the next post will include new FABRIC...and pictures of our newest family member--Isabella, the kitten!

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY TO ME!

Your Sister in Christ,

Avery

Another Beautiful Day! Unexpected Husband News...

{ 09:15 , Friday, April 10, 2009 } { 2 comments } { Link }
Good Morning!

Whew, we are having a bright and sunshiny morning!  Our packages have been shipped out for the day...and now we are trying to decide how best to plan the REST of our day!

Last night, we went to the Vision Conference at our church and heard the visiting pastor, Pastor Aylestock, preach on "Problems in the Church" and how to be an effective church.  The message was wonderful!  We are new to the church, and so is the Pastor.  So this conference is a way for him to share his vision for the church with the rest of us!  I can't wait to hear what he has to say tonight!

Yesterday was husband's 1st post-op appointment.  We were SHOCKED!  SHOCKED! The Dr. said that she was very happy with his progress, BUT...BUT....she wants him home for...

TWO MORE WEEKS!!!

Yikes!  Can I say that again....YIKES!  We are going to have to come up with some sort of routine...and FAST!

Today, I have two loads of laundry that have to be put up, and a load that is drying in the dishwasher.  We have having 3 friends over for lunch...and I have NO IDEA what I am going to be serving.  Not a clue.  (Just not chicken!)

Hmmm, I would like to get two skirts finished today.  And Charlie's room--where the chickie-chickies were--cleaned out of chickie-chickie remnants.

But first, to get rid of this neck-ache that I have so I can think clearly...we are having company for lunch (JUST planned) and I have NO IDEA what I am serving.  Not the first clue!

Avery

The Chickie-Chickies are In Their NEW HOME!!!!! (Pics)

{ 10:22 , Thursday, April 9, 2009 } { Posted in The Chickens } { 1 comments } { Link }
Yesterday morning, my dad and brother brought me a wonderful, handmade chicken tractor!  It is BEAUTIFUL!
With Daniel's shoulder being out of commission, he has been unable to build the additional tractor that we desperately need for the chickie-chickies.  Look at how BEAUTIFUL this is!  It arrived at our house yesterday just before lunch!

As you can see...the chickie-chickies had out-grown their current home:

My dear husband has been home all week recovering from surgery, and we decided that the weather is going to be nice and warm enough today to move them OUTSIDE to this new tractor!!!  Look at that face!

We have 4 Barred-Rocks and 3 Arraucanas.  THe Arraucanas will be kept for layers, and the BRs will eventually become Breakfast, Lunch, Brunch and Dinner--as my husband likes to call them!  Here they are in their new home!

New Chickie Coop is ON IT'S WAY!!!

I am so excited!!  And I am sure that the chickie-chickies will be, too!

Because of Daniel's shoulder, he has not be able to build the new chicken tractor that we need for the cute little chickies living in our guest room.  So earlier this week, my brother and dad took pitty on us and BUILT a chicken tractor for us!!!

They live about an hour away...and he just called to say THEY ARE ON THE WAY!!!!  WHOOO HOOOO!!!
I can't wait to put the little ones outside!!!  And they are getting so big!

I PROMISE pictures this afternoon!

Daniel's Surgery, Gardening, the Chickies & 40% Off SALE!!!!

{ 09:00 , Monday, April 6, 2009 } { 2 comments } { Link }
Good morning!  Good Morning!

After a week of trying nerves, Daniel's surgery went off without a hitch on Friday morning.  My mom came up to be with us for this. She drove us to and from surgery, bought us lunch and helped get Daniel settled once we came home.  In order to have Daniel released, I had to sign a form stating things I would and would not do.  The form actually stated "Responsible Adult" under where I had to sign.  Seriously, my mother should have been the one to sign the form!!  :-)

We are on day 3 of recovery and Daniel seems to be doing fine!  There was NO Rotator Cuff tear!!!  The Dr went in for 3 bone spurs and come out with 3 bone spurs!

Saturday, my dear friend C and her husband, W, came up so that I could go to the Farmer's Market.  Daniel was not supposed to be alone for the first 24 hours after surgery...and W was soooooo sweet to come up and "man-sit" on his Saturday!  I have to say that C and I had a BLAST!!!

Daniel was so gung-ho to go to Church yesterday.  However, I was afraid of him getting bumped and jostled...so we stayed home.  Our church is having a conference this week, so we will go later is the week when his shoulder is a little stronger.

Yesterday was the first day the chickie-chickies were taken outside. We took them out in Patches Jean's old crate.  Daniel started digging for worms while he planted the carrots and radishes...and they went NUTS for the worms!!!  NUTS!

Sales have been in a little bit of a slump this past week.  And that couldn't have come at a worse time.  So...I think it's time for a BIG SALE!!!  Ready for this!!!!!

ALL MAGAZINES at http://forthekeeperathome.mybisi.com are 40% OFF!  That's right!  Every Keepers at Home, An Encouraging Word, Above Rubies and MORE are 40% OFF!!!  For THIS WEEK ONLY!  Sale will run from TODAY until Saturday Night!!!  You do have to use code 'MAGAZINE' at checkout!
Also, in honor of Tax Day, my http://www.littlestpetshopfigures.com site is having a Store-Wide 15% Off Sale!!! (Use code '15OFF')

Well, now I'm off to the Bank, the used book store to sell some books and to get dog food.  Lord-willing the sky will clear-up this afternoon so we can take the chickies back outside!

Trials, a New Bible Study and a Great Monday!

{ 07:40 , Monday, March 30, 2009 } { 1 comments } { Link }
Monday is looking to be a BEAUTIFUL day!  The sun has already come over the horizon, the air is cool--but not cold, and the Lord allowed us one more day!  :-)  What can their possibly be to complain about!  Now had you asked me Saturday, I would have told you a different tale.  As Miss Stacy would say, " Remember, you can always start everything afresh tomorrow."

Saturday was a trial.  And Sunday did not start out any better.  At both 1am AND 6am, Annie Marie decided to hike her bum over our fence and run away.  She is now tethered outside, and NOT happy about it!  Her tether is almost 30 feet long...I know she'll be ok.  She HATES to go outside, and in about 15 minutes...will be whining to come back in.

I love Mondays.  Ok.  I love the IDEA of Mondays.  No matter how little I was able to accomplish the week before, Monday is always the day to do better!  And today is starting out great!  Husband is off to work.  Laundry Load #1 is going in the washing machine.

We are so excited!  It looks like we have FOUND A CHURCH!!!!  WHOOO HOOOO!!!  I know a lovely woman on a email group whose husband just became the pastor of a church about 30 minutes from us.  Yesterday was our 2nd Sunday.  I know...only our 2nd visit...AND we are just so thankful that the Lord has led us here!  And this was our FIRST Sunday to go to Sunday School!  The Pastor is so vibrant!  For Sunday School, we are going the "Taking the Time to Change" study from BJU Press.

I can't tell you how thankful I am for this.  Husband and I do almost no Bible Study together.  And I have been having trouble finding a Bible Study that I want to do.  This study has a book and a wookbook.  The workbook is broken down into "Daily Lessons", and husband has said we will do them together!  YEAH!  Thank you LORD!!!!

This week my goal is to have every meal at home.  So far, so good!  Friday, I wrote down a meal plan.  My hardest meal to stick-with is Breakfast.  There are many morning that I physically have trouble getting out of bed.  The best I can do on those days is Smoothies.  I would love to make breakfast EVERY morning!  Tonight for supper we are having Steak with Onion Soup.  Husband can't wait!

Well, I can hear my washer going into the final spin cycle.  Back to work!

Your Sister in Christ,

Avery

FOG and My Day! Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

{ 07:28 , Friday, March 27, 2009 } { 2 comments } { Link }
Good Morning!

FOG.  That's what I woke up to this morning.  HEAVY FOG!  And for about 1.2 seconds I think I may have almost seen the sun.  But that's gone now.  I just checked the weather report, and Weather Channel is calling for RAIN and Thunderstorms ALL weekend!

Bummed for ME and EXCITED for my garden!  I am sure my little plants are out there saying "Thank you Lord!"  I had one cabbage plant that looked as if it may not make it!  Now, it is straight and tall with its leaves turned brightly up towards God!

(Just took a long break to go track down my runaway Annie Marie.)

Yesterday turned out to be a pretty dull day for me.  And not as productive as it should have been.  But today is another day.  Our mailman now comes around 9:30 in the morning, and I have to make sure all my packages are ready.  This is a big change for me, as our mail used to come around 5:30 at night!

I did manage to get a load of laundry FOLDED and then one washed/dried in time to have something to wear for GNO.

Last night, I went out for GNO!  (Girl's Night Out)  I met some of my friends at a local restaraunt and we gabbed for 2 HOURS!  It was great!  We used to do GNOs every week.  Then came Christmas, and everyone was busy.  I think now we are back in the swing of things!  In a couple of weeks, I will host the GNO at our house.  What fun!

Today in the mail, I received TWO packages.  TWO!  The first was my deodorant order from Terra Naturals.  www.terranaturals.com  I think this stuff ROCKS!  I purchased a single tube from a coop last year.  I have tried other alum-free/addititive-free deodorants, and must admit disappointment.  So I was skeptical, but decided to try a tube.  Oh ladies!  This stuff WORKS!!!

I think I'm going to check my email and then do something.  Later this afternoon, I HAVE to clean out the chickie-home.  And finish the laundry.  And then run the dishwasher.  :-)

Your Sister in Christ,

Avery

What a Great Week! Gardening, Chickens and Fabric!

{ 04:51 , Thursday, March 26, 2009 } { Posted in Just Another Day } { 0 comments } { Link }
Despite the fact that we have not seen the sun ALL DAY...this has been quite a beautiful day!  The rain has been light enough to keep the dogs outside and heavy enough to water my newly transplanted veggies.

Last weekend, my dear friend C and her husband W, came over.  Since Daniel's should is still bum (he goes in for surgery next week), W came to run the garden tiller.  C cooked both Lunch AND Supper!  Our circle of friends may be small...but they are true friends.  For the past few years, we have "Raised-Bed" Gardened.  And while that has been good, we have not quite reached the potential that we want.  So this year, we ripped out ALL of the raised beds, and put in "Rows".

We fenced-in two garden areas and then added 2 "circles" to the outside of the gardens for potatoes.  Next week, my herb bed will go in!  Already, I have several transplants planted.  Let's see, onions (about 50 plants), 4 broccoli, 3 cabbage and 4 cauliflower.  We had a 4th cabbage, but on the 2nd day...dear dear Patches Jean went through the opening in the gate and had some FUN IN THE DIRT!  She pulled-down our row markers and dug up a plant or two.  But in truth, the damage was not that bad.

I came down ill 2 weeks ago, and have slowly been getting better.  This is the first time in YEARS that I have had an out-and-out COLD.  Usually, I get the flu once or twice per year when I am REALLY stressed.  But "colds" don't normally get me down.  Ugh.

For that reason, I was not able to get my brain together enough to do a March Blog Contest.  Never fear...there will be one in April!  (Short ad: Don't forget our 10% Sale at http://forthekeeperathome.mybisi.com and www.littlestpetshopfigures.com . The sale ends the 31st of March!)

Today has been such a dreary, foggy day.  I have felt like doing NOTHING.  And I have almost succeeded.  :-(  I have done one load of dishes, and 2 loads of laundry.

The chicks are now HUGE!  Almost all have their feathers in.  The Araucanas (brown) and Barred Rocks have turned soooo pretty!  We have one little white Araucanna, and she is pretty in her own little way.  Daniel can't WAIT for them to be big enough to go outside.  But, I suppose that means we need to get ON with building our second chicken tractor!  YIKES!  :-)

I have some new fabric that has arrived at the house in the past few weeks.  I will try and get pictures up tomorrow.  And I am half-way through my Amy Butler "Barcelona" skirt.  Wouldn't it be GREAT to have it done this weekend?  YES!  Sooon....there WILL be pictures....SOON!

Your Sister in Christ,

Avery

What a Week! Visiting, Laundry...and Chicks! (Oh...a sale, too!)

{ 07:10 , Wednesday, March 18, 2009 } { Posted in Just Another Day } { 2 comments } { Link }
This has been such a great week!  Sunday, we spent the ENTIRE day at my parent's!  My mom is preparing to go to Italy, and Sunday is the last day had to spend time with her before she leaves.  She is sooo excited!  We had wanted to go down for the weekend.  However...it rained for almost 4 DAYS straight (by Sunday).  We would have had to take Patches Jean with us...AND the chickies...so we decided to go just on Sunday.

My mom HATES having her picture taken...but my dad, brother, brother's girlfriend and her family were good sports!  My brother's gf and her family are very close to my family...so it was no surprise that the Ks came over for supper Sunday night!  We had a blast!

Here is my handsome husband.  Seriously...what is UP with his HAIR!  :-)

Monday, I was uber-productive.  I think I did 5 LOADS of laundry AND unloaded/loaded/ran the dishwasher!  WOW!  I felt like "Super Homemaker!"  And then Tuesday rolled around.  Oh wait...that was yesterday!

I wish I had a Big Sister.  They can be so useful sometimes.  Big Sisters can help with homework, go purchase concert tickets when the venue is in HER hometown to save the Ticketmaster fees...and go register/pay for a class you have to take when the class is in a town near hers.  How do I know how great a Big Sister can be...I'm the Big Sister!  :-)  We have a huge venue in our town...and I have been know to go purchase tickets to save my dear baby brother the $8 Ticketmaster fee. But I don't know that he saves anything.  Last time, I charged him a "Ticket for Sister" fee!  :-)

Yesterday, I had to go register him at our local Community College for a class that he HAS to take on Saturday.  It SHOULD have been a QUICK jaunt...SHOULD have been!  But all is well now.

Speaking of the Baby Brother...Here he is on Sunday night with his lovely girlfriend, K.

Daniel and I completed our 2-week "Healthy Recovery" meal plan...and I am down 4 Pounds!  Yeah!  Now we are doing the "Quick and Easy Weight Loss" meal plan.  Last night we had Leg of Lamb and Roasted Veggies.  YUM! YUM!  Tonight is Lamb Curry.  I know Daniel can't wait!

I have another load of laundry to finish and the dishwasher to run.  However, I am down for teh count.  I have had a sore throat since Monday...and it's not getting any better.  Yesterday added an earache and today...the blahs.  YIKES!  I have too much to do to be sick!

The chicks are growing leaps and bounds!  I purchased them a new bucket...twice as big.  And they are just itching to go OUTSIDE!  Only 2-3 more weeks!

Quick sale news...ALL clothing on my http://forthekeeperathome.mybisi.com is 25% off until next Monday (3/23)...just use code "25off".

Amish Friendship Bread, Sewing Chickens and a Chick Pic!

{ 09:17 , Tuesday, March 10, 2009 } { 3 comments } { Link }
Good Morning!

This is such a pretty morning!  And...I have even collected ONE EGG already!   We were on an egg-roll there for a bit, but when we removed the roosters, egg production CEASED!  But today...an EGG!  Yeah!

Yesterday, the daughter of my friend CP, CP2, came up to GSO.  She and I went to a sewing class where we made little chicken pin-cushions.  These are SOOOO CUTE!  EVERYONE in class made the beaks upside-down...but I think they still turned out to be quite cute.

I am thinking of making some of these to put on my website or on Etsy.  Or maybe make the pre-cut KITS!  Hmmm....ideas, ideas.

After sewing, CP2 and I rolled in the fabric at the store, and then went off to PieWorks for lunch.  YUM!  After Pieworks, we went to ANOTHER fabric store.  :-)  Then to the bank and to Ganache...a swanky desert hot-spot.  Their deli case is FULL of cakes, cookies and other whatnots that are NOT on my menu plan!  But I caved for a small cookie.

CP2 and I came back to teh house, and then a friend of ours came over to give our garden the once-over.  DNIMBY is a semi-pro backyard gardener.  I wanted him to give me an idea of what we can do to expand our production this year.  I am not a "chicken little", BUT, I think NOW more than ever is going to be THE TIME to grown, can and save!  :-)  It was quite educational!  Today, the seed order will go out!

Also, I can't close a post without a chick update.  The chicks are getting quite big.  CP2's dad, WP came and took a look at our chickies.  He said they are much older than a week and 4 days.  He believes them to be more like 3 weeks.  Ok...  So we have a few that have taken to "roosting" on the top of the container.  And here is one of them:

D has put a 2x4" in the bucket to give them a place to roost IN the bucket.  It is soooo cute to see them on the board...SOUND ASLEEP!  They just look like they are going to fall off!

Monday, Monday...Great Weekend and Week Ahead!

{ 07:17 , Monday, March 9, 2009 } { Posted in Just Another Day } { 1 comments } { Link }
Good Morning!

What a great weekend this has been!  Saturday is my FAVORITE day of the week.  Not because D is home all day...but because we spend all day today.  Saturday's are our SHOPPING days.  We usually awaken, let the pups out, feed the chicks and pups and just hang-out together.  Then, we get moving and head  to the local Farmer's Market.  D tries his best to keep me from dawdling, but he's fighting a losing battle.

We can spend HOURS at Market just talking and talking.  It is really my social time for the week!  Then we head off to The Fresh Market and the Earth Fare.

Jim and Cindy came over for lunch and were here all afternoon!  It was so much fun!

Then last night (Sunday), we went to our friend's house (CP and her husband) to celebrate the birthday of their oldest.

This week is also looking to be a great week!  (BRB...gotta go let a whining puppy outside)  CP's daughter, CP2, will be coming to visit to come and go with me to a local sewing group.  Then, a urban farming friend that I have is coming to help me plan the garden for the year.  I am really excited!

This year, I want to grow MORE tomatos and get a good crop of tomatoes.  Canning is going to be of utmost importance in the coming times, I believe.

Well, I have so much more I want to write...but need to get going on my day!  I already have the dishwasher running, and need to get the laundry folded!

Avery

What a Busy Day! Another Cute Chick Pic!

{ 04:43 , Friday, March 6, 2009 } { Posted in Just Another Day } { 2 comments } { Link }
Good afternoon!

This has been such a busy day!  My dear friend, CP, came up today to do some computer shopping.  She and her husband both agreed that I needed to go along for support.  So up she came.  We banked, toy shopped for her oldest daughter's birthday, and then...went to Best Buy.

We came away with a new computer, printer and camera.  CP is SOOO EXCITED, to say the least!  Then we headed off to one of MY favorite stores...the Target!   By the time we left the Target, we were famished, so we went to eat at the Chicka-fil-A.  Oh, when we were at Best Buy, they sold us a printer cable for...ready for this....$34!!!!  $34!!!!  I was SHOCKED!  At Target, we found the same one for $11...so after lunch, we went back to the BB to return the expensive cable.

CP treated me to some ice cream, and then we went an browed at the local Family Christian STore.  If you have a local FCS, take note, several of their GOOD marriage books are on sale for $5.97.  They had Gary Smalley's "Love Language" series, and several books by Elizabeth George.

I picked up a video for A's birthday (CP's daughter), an Elizabeth George book, a NEW KJV Pocket NT/Psalms for my purse, and a CD by Richie McDonald.  I have never heard of Mr. McDonald, but his CD was only $5, so I thought I would give it a try.  When you join (for free) the FCS family group, FCS has a selection of movies, CDs and books each month that they offer their members for only $5 EACH!

After CP left, I drove to the Southern States to buy chick(en) feed, a need feed dish and some plants.  I came home with 75 pounds of feed, a tomato plant and some broccoli plants.  I am happy to say that all plants are now safely in the ground...or container...as is the case with the tomato plant.  :-)

I cannot end this post without a CCC...a Cute Chick Pic.  My chickees are now ONE WEEK OLD!  And the Barred Rocks are pretty fiesty.  We have one particular BR that takes to jumping on the waterer, and then right out the box.  Here she is just moments before flying the coop.

Avery

What a Pretty Day! It's going to be a Great Day!

It's only 7:37, and this is already shaping-up to be a bee-u-tiful day!  :-)  As normal, my alarm went off at 5:30am.  Daniel was supposed to be out for work at 6:15...but we didn't get him out the door until 6:30.  We are on day FOUR of the "Eat Fat, Lose Fat" meal plan.

We were supposed to have Cream of Vegetable Soup last night for supper, but due to poor planning on my part, we only had leftovers.  This morning, we each had a DELICIOUS Yogurt-Coconut Smoothie!  I may have to go back for seconds!

Today, I need to:
  • Finish the laundry
  • Pack/Ship a few packages
  • Empty/Load/Run the Dishwasher
  • Clear the Kitchen Table
  • Install a Zipper into a Skirt I want to sew
  • Make up the Goodwill box
I know there is more, but that seems to be a good start!

My appointment yesterday went very well!  I am really trying to drink MORE WATER.  And for snacks, I drinking a milk tonic.  My only problem with the milk tonic is that I am very low on egg yolks.  :-(  LAY CHICKENS!  LAY!

Talking about chickens, this morning, we had one of our BR chicks fly the coop.  Literally.  I am in the office, and here this TERRIBLE squawking coming from their room.  Just LOUD!  And saying, "HELP ME!"  And there she was...OUTSIDE the bucket trying to peck her way back in.  They are SOOO CUTE!

Your Sister in Christ,

Avery

Small Vent, Today's Plans and I Need $60! (Quickie Sale!)

{ 08:29 , Wednesday, March 4, 2009 } { Posted in Just Another Day } { 3 comments } { Link }
Good Morning!

I know that as Christians we are called to bear and forebear.  And I feel badly even writing this out, but I feel if I don't...I will explode!  We have a couple that is VERY close to our family.  We are at each other's houses all the time...mi casa es su casa kind of thing.

Well, yesterday, their oil pipes froze and they were without hot water or heat.  So, they came over for the wife to take a shower and then go on to work.  Today, they came over again.  I delayed putting any wash in, in order to be ready for her (no big deal).  So, the husband comes in and not once in the first 20 minutes in the house acknowledges or says one kind word to me.  He turns on the TV and gets on the phone (his cell) for a business call.

So he comes upstairs where I am packing and says something snarky. I vented that he was in my house, his wife was using our shower (REALLY not a big deal), and that he had not said one kind word to me.  He defended himself, of course, and then went on with what he was saying.

One thing that got me was when I said that I even delayed starting the laundry so his lovely bride could take a shower, he said, "Well, that's just a scheduling issue.  YOu can work around that."  He never acknowledged or thanked for the use of the shower.  Really, D and I don't mind.  These are VERY good friends of ours and I was glad to be here for them.  It's just his attitude (NOT hers).

What do y'all do when faced with a situation like this?  Do you have any Bible Verses that really are a crutch (I mean that in a good way) for you?  I could use them for now and in the future.

Second, I have an appoitnment  this afternoon and am short on the cash. I shared with the husband about this and he gave me a mini-lecture on "needs" vs "wants".  We believe in alternative-medicine and they don't.  So he sees anything other than going to a "Dr"-Dr as a "want" vs a "need".

That leads into my QUICKIE SALE!  My appointment is at 2pm EST.  I have some $$ on it's way...but of course, none will be here till Friday.  From NOW until 1:30pm EST, if you make a purchase and pay with PAYPAL, I will enter you into a drawing for a $10 GIFT CERTIFICATE AND give you FREE SHIPPING on your order!!!  Just ENTER the code "FREESHIP" during check-out.  Remember, this is only good till 1:30pm TODAY!!

If you have gotten this far....thank yoU!

Your Sister in Christ,

Avery
