Question about dresses?

For other dress-wearing moms:
Okay, I found this site. What was in called...? Wholesome Womanhood or something like that. It was a nice one. They had this great thing, A Week in Dresses with pictures of several different ladies doing their week's work in dresses to show that you can be fiminine and work at the same time. The pictures were all several years old. I was intrigued. I wear dresses most of the time and have tried to encourage my daughters to dress feminine. Our tomboy delights in pretty blouses and the 6 yearold loves decorated tees... but they wear jeans except for church or special outings. The biggest problem is that we live in windy country and we have outside chores to do. Milking, feeding, fence mending type chores. Then helping Hubby in the oil feild sometimes. I have no problem cooking, cleaning, or even gardening in a dress. I'd like to see some pictures of women doing dirty work in dresses. I know it can be done, and that is usually how I do it but my hubby and children aren't there yet. I've seen these tag thingys going around. I wonder if we could do something like that here. I know I don't like my picture taken at all, much less all dirty cleaning a brand-new-baby goat or sitting on the tractor. I'm sure you are all the same, but maybe these dirty moments are the ones that need to be shown. Some reality rather than trying to make dresses look like a glamorous June Cleaver thing. I've heard men say that they think they're wives are the loveliest when they feel the least lovely. We need to let posterity know that Great Great Grandma really loved being feminine, even when she was in the most mundane and dirty of circumstances. (Though I do know many of them adorned Grandpa's overalls when they helped fix the roof, some instances may require that modesty and femininity don't mean what we usually picture... I'm all for chunking the designer jeans, but if there aren't a lot of handy men around to help your hubby, it may be a good idea to keep a pair of overalls handy to slip into... I'm open to thoughts here too of course.) I hope to have lots of comments (and maybe some pictures) on this topic!
Prayers to all!

I like wearing dresses, I find they are cooler in the summer, and with a pair of long underware and knee socks can be quite warm in the winter, tho blowing wind does show the extras underneath. I work on a horse farm and it is practical to wear jeans and shorts, I like coulots but they are hard to find, on the occasions on saturdays or sundays when I get called out to the farm, my dresses are long & loose enough that crawling over a fence or through one as well as driving the tractor I don't worry about showing anything, if it is windy just wear one of a heavier material. Spilt skirts or a set of snaps would make it easier for somethings.

I skimmed your blog. My inlaws all come from a dress wearing family. Most of the ladies I know that do farmwork etc do 1 of 2 things - many of the older ones wear jeans or pants under their dresses (and yes, still wear the dresses - so that they are not actually wearing pants alone...) most of theyounger ones wear coulotts (sp??) which is like pants that have very wide legs that come to mid calf and they are flared like a skirt - yet they meet in the middle so they don't whip up like a dress or show more than you need to when you straddle a tractor.

I've been dresses only for about a year now. Mainly blue jean skirts. I LOVE it! It took some getting used to and all. The stares and the "why are you only wearing dresses?" have come mainly from my family. Why is it such a wonder for a woman to wear only dresses/skirts?
Anyway, I have 2 skirts that I use to hang around the house in and do outdoor work. They are really long and get pretty dirty. No June Cleaver here :- )
Hubby likes the dresses, so that's all the incentive I need ;- )

I love looking and feeling femine although it is my desire to wear whatever I feel at the moment. I look like and feel like I am a woman in what ever I choose for that is part of me loving me. It is a personal thing I suppose just as long as we love the Lord with all our heart as He also loves us just as we are for we are always His. Have a blessed day! rilda *U*
