Wednesday, November 28, 2007 - Papa's comming home soon... |
Papa had a Dr.s appointment today, so I went to the nursing home to get him and talked to the skilled nursing to see how he's doing. Paul's been calling every day and they've said he's walking and bathing. When I got there he was in a wheel chair... Okay. Then they tell me PT has dismissed him today. Ah, Oh! I thought I had 20 days to get his house ready for him, now they are telling me he's comming home in a few days. I explained to them that I'm in a real pickle, needing to clean and rearange his house before he can come home. I also need to rearange my schedule, such as it is, so we can provide his meals and administer meds and keep his house clean and laundry done up. They all told me how great he's doing and how they've all enjoyed him and he hasn't given anyone any problems at all. Oh boy, he's got them buffaloed... (Actually I think they are spoiling him rotten and he's enjoying every minute of it!) Well, I went to get him to go and he's sitting in his wheelchair finishing up his lunch and peach pie. He asked if he's going to get to see the new bathroom and I told him if he hurried, since his appointment would be soon. Well the old geezer next to him griped at me about not hurrying him up or he's gona get indegestion. Oh brother... Anyway, Papa finishes up his milk and starts rolling toward the hall. I asked if he could walk. He said yes. I said he ought to do so since he's gona have to do stairs and all when he gets home. So he griped to everyone down the hall about me being mean and making him leave his wheelchair. I also found out, he's not bathing himself, they are using a lift and scrubbing him... Well, buy the time Paul got him to his appointment and back he couldn't get in and out of the vehicle by himself or up and down from a chair by himself and when I got him back to the nursing home I just about didn't think he was gona make it to the door. He said he just wants to come back to his trailor and never leave. I told him, we'd like to work with him as much as possible but Home Health Care isn't available anymore and we don't have many options. He agreed. We're going to try this for a month and see how it goes. I appreciate everyone's prayers, cause I'm feeling very overwhelmed right now. His house is rat and spider infested and he has taken apart the faucets and clocks and has tools and modle airplane peices all over the place. We have to pack up all the clutter and get it out, then scrub the house from top to bottom and end to end and Hubby has to fix the plumbing and maybe the HVAC as well. We need to disconnect his stove and..... Anyway, it's more like two weeks worth of work and I only have two days. Thankfully we've caught up on our housework since the bathroom and they won't be back to do the utility room until the middle of December or so. I will be living off coffee and ibuprofen for the next several days, and the next few weeks (or month) are going to be very hard adjustments for everyone around here.

Praying for peace, comfort and strength for everyone. There will be adjustments on all sides, but I'm sure things will find a good routine soon. Try not to stress too much and just go with the new flow.

I know this is hard for you. But I wish I had your problem. I lost my dear mother in 2001. She was hard to take care of and gave me fits. But I sure do miss her.
