The Cold Has Returned

I sat on the porch last night and watched as the storm rolled in. It suddenly got very cold, and I had to run and grab a sweater. The lightning was beautiful. We had a little thunder and a quick downpour, but that was all. There were tornadoes not too far from here so we kept the tele on to make sure we were ready to run to the storm cellar if we had to.

Today I covered the beets, carrots and marigolds with hay. I also built up a bale of hay for the chickens to help keep them warm and I brought them some cut grass since they did not want to venture out into the cold today. I also gave them warm water to drink. I learned that from reading Little Farm In the Ozarks. The ducks went to the pond today on their own, which was great. When we first introduced them to the pond they got out and wanted nothing to do with it! I turned the compost pile and it was steaming. The seed potatoes arrived today. We are planning on growing them in tires, after the freeze passes.

Today it is a beautiful day, with fall like weather. I love it, since fall is my favorite season. Have a blessed day.
