Update on SIL

10:05 AM, Wednesday, September 19, 2007 .. Posted in Family .. 3 comments .. Link

I am suffering from sleep deprivation, my house is a wreck and we haven't had any homeschool all week. I am temporarily raising my brother's newborn preemie and his 2-year-old, along with my three children. Can I just say that I have the utmost respect for those people who have five children or more? I don't know how they do it. Okay, I am doing it - but I don't know how they watch five children, cook dinners, clean house and do everything else required of a SAHM. Still, God has entrusted me with these blessings and I will do the best I can.

My SIL developed pneumonia in her left over the weekend, in addition to the ARDS (lung disease). The physicians were able to get that under control rapidly, and her ARDS is getting much better, too. They tried to remove the ventilator tubes from her throat, but her throat was so swollen that she still couldn't breathe and they had to put her back on the ventilator. They have been giving her steroids for days to try and bring the swelling down, but to no avail.

Once the swelling in the throat goes down, the ventilator can probably come off since her lungs are doing better. The only problem is that the swelling is not going down (possibly because of the ventilator tubes). The doctors are considering doing a tracheotomy today (cutting a hole in the throat and putting a tube there so she can breathe). None of us want that, as that will mean a huge scar for my 26-year-old SIL. I trust that God will guide the physician's decisions and they will do what is needed.

Your prayers mean so much to us. When my SIL recovers enough to return home, as we pray she will, I plan on printing out these entries with all the comments for her (I don't think she has the Internet). I think the prayers of complete strangers will touch her like nothing else and help her continued recovery.

Update on your SIL

I am back again to check up on your SIL and am so thankful that there is improved progress.

In the bigger scheme of things, a scar on her throat that might be 3 inches long or more, will be nothing compared to the testimony that she will be able to share about how God has brought her through this season of her life.

May Father God continue to strengthen her and return her health to normal. May Father God continue to give you the strength that you need to watch over her children and yours as well. May Father God give peace and solace to her husband an d her parents as they are so worried for one they love so much.

We sing praises to you this day Father God for all you have done in this life of this child of yours and we praise you for healing her and giving her back to her family to enjoy and raise her children.

God Bless,
