Finding Contentment

Blogger Friend School

Today marks my first assignment for Blogger Friend School. So here I go!

A. Give a brief introduction paragraph stating how you got started blogging and your personal goals for journaling.

In February of 2007, my husband and I began feeling like something was missing from our lives. We went to church, we had begun homeschooling our kids just two months before, and we had everything we needed. But still, I felt.... unhappy. As if I was just going through the motions of life. Traffic, grocery stores, television, fast food restaurants... It just didn't seem to fit. What I really wanted to do was to move to the country, away from the hustle and bustle. I wanted to find some peace and quiet in my life.

When hubby inserted some common sense and squashed my idea of leaving his job and moving to the country with nothing to our name, I began looking at ways to live in the city as if we were living in the country. I began sharing my ideas with my husband and children, and slowly but surely we decided this was the way life should be - simple.

While researching homesteading I began running across many blogs dedicated to the subject. These blogs would be the first blogs I had ever read. They were so helpful, and made me feel so hopeful. On March 12, 2007, I decided to start my own blog in order to chronicle our homesteading efforts and encourage others along the way. You can read my very first entry on what we had decided to do and why, here. My personal journaling goal (which I sometimes loss sight of) is to be an encouragment to others who wish to homestead or just live a simple, Godly life.

B. Share a “dream” place to blog in picture if you can.

A cabin in the mountains with a meandering stream. What could be more peaceful?

C. Answer some questions to tell us more about you:

  1. What time do you usually blog?   Whenever I can find an extra moment.
  2. What is your favorite drink?    Coffee. Preferably with hazelnut creamer and a packet of Splenda.
  3. What is your favorite book?    The Bible. Although I believe it is less of a book and more of an instruction manual for life. But I have always liked to read "how-to" books!
  4. What is your favorite dessert? Plain cheesecake.
  5. Share a scripture that has been an inspiration in your growth with Christ.   I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. ~~Philippians 4:11 NIV~~

I really enjoyed reading your post today and it has given me something to ponder about as we contemplate moving in the near future....

It may very well be possible to implement the Homestead way of life for us....although I would say we are halfway there now...

Have a blessed day in the Lord,

I so loved reading your assignment and some of your other posts. I really enjoyed your blog and I have a homestead blog, too.
We used to live in a city and although I yearned for the country life (which we do have now), I learned to be content where I was planted and I got to where I loved where we were and sometimes I even miss that time! LOL Holly (applesofgold)

What a uplifting post, I read your 1st post too. Your dream blog, seems like you have it right in place. What a great thing to do not only spiritual wise for your family, but for you.
Wow! I so enjoyed my time here today. Your words are very strong in todays world, yet spoken so soft.
Thank you again, for being able to walk through your dream blog.

Blessings from another BFS,

I love living a simplier life. My husband and I desire a more simplier life than what we already have, but we're working on it. I have a homestead blog also.

I look forward getting to know you in the weeks to come through BFS.

Blessings,

I really like the verse you chose. And I **love** your canning room. I just started canning last year and it has been so much fun. I've only done jellies and pickles so far. "cya" around school!!
