Finding Contentment

Big Mama

Big Mama is doing better after her encounter with our black Lab. She is now eating and drinking well. I think she will recover, but we are still very worried about her foot. If it doesn't straigten out I don't know what we will do. The hens would peck at a disabled chicken who couldn't hold her own.

Big Mama is currently staying in my canning room in the cellar. It is cooler down there than outside (can you believe it is 101 degrees today, and that doesn't factor in the humidity or heat index)?

I can't really figure out what exactly is wrong with the foot. See how it is turned under?

She lets Mark straighten it out and doesn't seem to be in pain, but she can't use it or straighten it out herself. There were no wounds that actually broke the skin, so I wouldn't think a nerve had been severed or anything. I can only hope that it is just sprained or something and will heal itself.

Still praying for her. She may have bruised the nerve and it may take a few days to heal.

Glad she is doing better. I know how hard it is too lose an animal you care for.
