Chicken house, VBS, troubled youth and wasps!

I just thought this was funny. The chickens look like they would really like to use Adam's "house" as their own, but he is having none of it. I'm not really sure who put it there, but the door is shut and barred with a hefty stick.

You'll will have to bear with me this week -  and you'll probably have to look at a more chicken pictures that I haven't posted yet. I am very busy this week with Vacation Bible School. We had 80 people Sunday and 88 today - although those numbers do include the workers. Our church isn't that big as far as people go, but we have some great youth workers who really put their heart and soul into caring about kids. Kids know when someone REALLY cares about them. This has caused our youth group to almost be larger than our core member group of adults!

Our youth minister's motto (if you want to call it that) is this:  "Send us the kids nobody else wants." And boy, do we get them. We get the most troubled youth I have ever seen. Many of the kids are dealing with everything from suicide attempts to teen pregnancy. It's amazing the way these kids come to God. Many of the ones that accepted God some time ago and have proved themselves to be trying to now live a Christian life volunteered as workers for VBS. I have the privelage of working with four of them this year. God really does wonderful things.

On another note, we had a crisis with the preschool class today. I work in the crafts room, and I looked up today to see two of the preschoolers being carried down the hall while they were crying pitifully - one of those "I'm in pain" cries.

Knowing they were in Adam's class, I stuck my head out the door to see what was wrong. Apparently some wasps had been building a nest on the underside of one of the outside railings, and attacked the preschoolers as they walked down the ramp with their hand on the railing. I asked if Adam was okay, and was told he was fine. A couple of minutes later, my daughter Alli, who is helping in the preschool class, came in carrying Adam.

Apparently, he had been stung by the wasp, too. He never cried at all, so the teachers assumed he was fine. Alli, who keeps a mother's eye on Adam when I am not around, noticed him sitting on the ground rubbing his leg. He had been stung by a wasp, also, but in the commotion of the crying preschoolers, nobody had noticed. My poor baby! He took it all in stride like nothing much had happened, although he refused to go around the area where the incident took place again.

One of the mothers went to her home a few blocks away and brough back some dye-free Benedryl, which was given to all three of the children who were stung (it was given to each child by their respective mother).

Hopefully they'll get that wasp nest taken care of before tomorrow!
