Cookin' It Up!

No Sugar!!!!!

I'm experiementing. We already have made major changes in my family's diet, especially my son's. He is a very smart little boy full of energy and curiosity. And trouble and an incontrolable appetite. During my own diet changes and research I discovered that white sugar makes me hungry, especially for snack foods.

So today I told my 5-yr-old son that he was going to try something with me. No sugar for 1 week to see if that would help curb his appetite. I do not starve my child, but he just never seems full. He is not overweight, very thin in fact. Yes, I realize that he is a growing boy and needs to eat, but he has now gone to chewing holes through all the collars on his shirts.

I didn't realize how many things actually have sugar in them! But we have stuck to our plan so far and already I've noticed a difference. He couldn't eat all his lunch today and he hasn't chewed his shirt most of the morning! But we will try this and see if there is a big change by the end of the week.

Any suggestions are encouraged!

My 8yo is skinny as a rail and eats incessantly! He doesnt' chew on his shirt tho. I wouldn't say we eat tons of white sugar, but we do eat some (well I eat more than my fair share!LOL). I bought some sucanat at the store, but it's pricey! Makes me think twice about using sugar anyway. I'm curious about your progress.

No Sugar, too!

I understand why you want to reduce your sugar intake. I research some information on consuming sugar. It can affect our health and weight, so I reduced buying sugary foods, too. Israel, my husband, LOVES anything sweet and he managed to eat less and less sweets! He used to be hungry all the times and stay thin. I think I notice that he is less hungry now after the reduction of sugar intake. Our boys eat some sweets only on weekend, but I do not always know what happen during the week!!! (cookies at church, candy from the bank, sweets from our neighbor!!) Hope it will last long in our kitchen! :-)
