~ Today was mom's first day back to school! So for the 3 days that I am home I will be taking over some of the chores until the summer season is over! One of these is changing the sprinklers in the morning. We have a little over 4 acres of lawn, trees and bushes and at this time we are running 4 sprinklers at 30 lbs of pressure. NO big deal! I should be able to finish in the morning in about 20 minutes! bada bing and I'm done! So after seeing Mom off to work, I sprayed mosquito repellant all over, got my gloves on, put on my irrigation boots and confidently stepped out to enjoy this chore. (Sometimes you just have to set your mind that you are going to enjoy things before you start!! It greases the wheels! Helps ya have the right frame of mind when something happens you weren't expecting! One of many farming/homesteadings valuable lessons!!) First I turned the hose on the small tomato garden. Then Valentine, Petey and I headed toward the front to begin resetting the sprinklers. First one is easy peasey lemon squeezey! Just pull out the one that is running and turn the faucet on the one that is to stay in. I grabbed the metal pole that keeps it steady and pull it out. simple. no problem. aaaaahh what a glorious morning. Now just twist and take that sprinkler head along with me. easy.... oops!! I forgot that you have to hold on to the head of the sprinkler while you twist the bottom out! Got a little wet- no big deal, just a little water on my sleeve. chuckle, snicker, I'll just have to remember that next time. Waters a little cold! Definitely wet! Now just 3 more and I'm done! This is fast and pretty painless. Petey stays fairly close while Valentine looks around for something a bit more interesting. Pull the sprinkler out, didn't get wet! Tada! Now before I put it into the next place I need to take this screwdriver and push down to clear the line of any debris. Seen Dad and Mom do this- simple. AAAAAAUAUAUUAUUAUUUGGHHH! Cold water gushes up from the line about 3 feet to fully douse my head! I straighten up gasping, trying to catch my breath. OOOOoooo that's cold!! Petey runs to a safe distance as soon as the water comes! Valentine comes running as soon as she hears the squeal and gasping! I am dripping water, my glasses are covered with spots, my shirt is soaked. I begin to laugh, just shaking my head and chuckling at first, but then I look over to see both the cat and dog looking at me, heads cocked with puzzlement in their expressions! Then the belly laugh begins!! Once recovered I set the sprinkler and go to get the next one done. Running to escape the one I had just set I run straight into the spray of the next sprinkler, by this time I am wet. All but my feet! Ya gotta love them irrigation boots!! I am sqealing and running to escape being sprayed but frankly I couldn't have gotten any wetter if I had been running into the sprinklers!!! AAAAaaaah ~ what an enjoyable, relaxing morning. Communing with nature (nature thinks I am certifiably crazy at this point), spending time with Valentine & Petey (them too, but they may be less surprised!), and smelling that cool morning air!!!(made all the cooler by a brisk shower!) Life is awesome and I am so glad to serve a God that has a great sense of humor!
I didn't plan on blogging until I had more done today, but I just had to share! This living is so much more fun (and entertaining!) when shared with others!
I'll be back later today for more and my attitude of grattitude list! See ya then! |
