• Monday, March 24, 2008 - Easter, chickens, goats and garden
We had a really nice Easter. We didn`t go to church tho. We are still looking for a church to attend. After what I went though with my last church, I am not in a big hurry. Thats just me. I was hurt really bad. I know God will lead me to the right one. I just don`t feel led right now. But anyway, we still enjoyed the day. The kids hunted for Easter eggs and had plenty of candy. Yikes! I will pay for that tomorrow evening.
I was asked about my garden. Well, with all the rain and cold weather, all I have out is a small rows of peas. I usually don`t start planting until Mothers Day. I was hoping to get a couple of rows of beans and corn out by the 100th day of the year, but doesn`t look like that will happen. The ground is just so wet. I just don`t know how well the tractor and plow would do to plow the ground.
My dd1 asked me today if I would sell eggs. One of the ladies she works with, told her, she would buy as much off of me that she could. I guess, white eggs are going up to 2.99 a dozen and brown eggs are more. I am going to sell mine for 1.75 a dozen. I just think 3.00 a dozen is just to high for eggs. But I know food has went up. I keep telling Sam we really need different nesting boxes. I hate the metal ones we have. They are just really hard to clean. Really I need a bigger hen house. I have six roosters out running loose. I had a total of seven roosters and 14 hens. They were just tearing my hens up. I figure if something gets them it really wasn`t that much of a loss. But I am going to give the roosters to my mother-in-law. I don`t have the time to butcher them myself. I will be placing an order in May for meat birds anyway. When they are fatten up I will butcher them. DD2 and DS is raising some for the fair.
I don`t remember if I mentioned about going Friday and Hannah picking out her goat for the fair. She picked out a little doe to show. She is so cute. We will be getting her sometime in mid-April. Hannah can`t wait but has a lot of work cut out for her getting a stall ready. We will have to keep her up in a stall because we don`t want to let her eat grass. This is going to be a big learning experience for us all. lol Well it is 2:10 am and I have to be up at 4:45 to get hubby up for work. So I am off to bed.
