• Tuesday, February 19, 2008 - Some scriptures on planting by the signs

Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the  day from night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years.     Genesis 1:14

To everything there is season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: a time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted.   Ecclesiastes 3:1-2

Now I got these scriptures from my foxfire book 1.  One of the reasons I got that book was because of the planting in the signs.  Now I don`t know a whole lot about it because I do have to ask every year.   I think it is one of my biggest regrets is when my mamaw was able to tell me this stuff, I didn`t write it down.  I thought I will remember. Yeah right.    You can  use the Farmers Almanac and it tells best time to plant.   Citysteader ask me a couple of questions and I promise to find out for you.  I don`t want to tell you something and it not be right.    I will try and explain a little about what I said about the heart, bowls and feet.
It does have to do with the Zodiac signs.   Example from foxfire book.    5th sign Leo In the heart.  This is a sign of fire. Barren sign  favors no planting nor transplanting.  Good for destroying bushes and weeds and deading tress.

sign              symbol        body part             planet           element

Aries              ram              head                     Mars                 fire
Taurus            bull           neck, throat           Venus            Earth
Gemini          Twins         Arms, chest          Mercury         Air
Cancer          Crab            breast, stomach   Moon            water
etc.

Maybe this will help a little.  Maybe this will help a little bit with what I mean about the body parts.
A lot of old timers did just about everything by the signs.  If the signs showed it wasn`t a good day to put shingles on the house they didn`t put shingles on the house.
Now I am sure there will be those that will say this has something to do with witchcraft.  I don`t know. My grandmother knew her Bible.  She was a very strong Christian woman.  I don`t feel that  if she felt this had anything to do with witchcraft or anything of that nature, she would have done it.   I had always heard her say it was in the scriptures.  Again I will try and find out a little bit better answer for you.  Hopefully I will be able to explain it better.

I know there is a point where "earth worship" comes in, but God made things the way he did for a reason. Planting by the signs is just another way to use the resources he gave, in my opinion. But I'm sure you're going to hear very different opinions on this!

Everyone does use signs that God gives us. He gives us signs to plant by too.
Anyone who claims not to use signs is not being honest. If we have very dark skies, the wind is blowing stong, then we know it as a sign of a storm.I do not know of anyone who does not use that sign. Do you?
If we have a red sky at night then we know it is going to be fair the next day. If we have red skies in the morning then we know that the conditions will not be favorable.I have always heard red sky at night is a sailors delight; red sky in morning is a sailors warning. There is scripture about the red sky and I will try to find it and post it.I always can tell a storm is on its way if the leaves of a tree are showing their underside. That one always hold true.
My grandparents were very devoted to God and they did use the sings for planting, God gives them to us to help us.
I would guess that you are a very successful gardener, since you plant by the signs that God gives you. Follow Him and you will prosper in all things good.
