This is the time of the year when I start planning my garden. I guess be closed up in the house and not being able to do things out side. I am an outside person. I love being outside. I am just not big on the cold weather. I do take the time to get things done in the house that needs to be done. Then I don`t have to worry about it when it is nice at outside.
Anyway back to the garden. I have been looking though my seed books and trying to decide what I want. What I can afford to buy. I have been wanting to buy strawberry plants. I am just not sure what plants would be the best. What is the sweetest ones to buy? Years ago, my mil gave me four plants but they really didn`t do much. I am not sure what they were called. So any ideas to what I sure buy.
Next what is winterberry. Can you eat them? I know nothing about them. I guess I will do some research about them.
Here is what I am planning on so far:
half runners
early snap peas
ambrosia corn
straight eight cucumbers or pioneer
zucchini
crimson sweet watermelons
Butternut squash
California wonder peppers
cabbage
pumpkins( they are high and this year they are going to start taxing them)
carrots
beets
kale and mustard greens
lettuce
potatoes
onions
sweet potatoes( I have never raised these and I am not sure if I can but I want to try)
turnips
eggplants
different types of hot peppers
I get a lot of request for my super hot salsa. I call it Make a grown man cry salsa. I would like to get it made this year in time to entry it in the local chili cook off. Top prize is 100.00. Anyway, I think it would be fun.
I am still planning out my garden. I sure hope my garden turns out this. I guess I will plant my garden and have faith God will send the rain.
I am moving my garden spot. I think my garden spot has been over farmed. Really you should rotate garden spot every year. That way you don`t wear out the ground. But that is something we haven`t done for a while. Where I am moving it to was a small animal lot, so the ground should be good there.
I am hope to be able to get lots of flowers out this year. Something else I have been asking my dh for is a small greenhouse. Maybe I will get one this spring. I would even be happy with waterbeds. We will see I guess. Well that is about it for now.
LIke you I have been planning my garden and pouring over different seed books! Every year I have a very large garden, I love to see my pantry filled with things that I harvest out of my garden to carry us through the winter months.
