• Friday, September 28, 2007 - A pic of my grandmother
The pic on top is my mamaw. It is one of my favorites. She looks so happy in this pic. I guess it is because she was doing something she loved to do. She was either baking or cooking. She always baked pies once a week. She told me that I had better learn to make good pies because I would end up marrying a man who loves pies. Guess what I did. She came from a family of sixteen children and with her being one of the older ones, she did a lot of the cooking and taking care of the household.
The picture of the man and woman is my great-grandparents. I was five when my great-grandfather die. I never got to meet my great-grandmother.
I wish you all could have meet my grandmother. she told my aunt a couple of months before she died that she knew things. Yelp she was right. I will have a question about something and think mamaw would know, but she is not here to ask. My mamaw was a wise woman. She knew how to take care of her home, husband and kids. She was very faithful to the Lord. She made sure that her kids knew who the Lord was too. She was one who could not sit still. At night, she would sit down and would either be reading or sewing, knitting. She was always busy. She taught me so much. I hope you all enjoyed the pics. sheryl
Loved the pictures, you are right she looks happy.
Both sets of my grandmas are gone, but left me with many stories and lessons. My hubbies grandma jean ( also gone) taught me the art of canning. I am passing that on to my girls.
God Bless. mj
There is some allure to old pictures besides the memories they encapture, they are nostalgic lessons too, like a glimpse into days long passed.
Take that jar of Nestle's Cocoa in front of her for instance, a fore runner to Nestle's Quick. Very Americana in her kitchen, reminds me of my Grandma's picture.
Grandma's baking cookies, what could be better than that?
