• Monday, September 24, 2007 - on the subject of dresses
With everyone posting about wearing dresses, it made me think about my grandmother. This story happened about 6 years ago. She was still able to get out and go some. I had asked her to go with me to church for Bible study. Well it was cold and she was afraid she would get cold and her legs. I told her she could just wear dress pants, that it was okay and no one would say anything. She said she would go. Well when we got to church and went in she was so uncomfortable. She thought Bible study was going to be in the fellowship hall and not the church. She looked at me and said I just don`t feel right. She had never worn pants in church before. She was 86 years old. I didn`t really think about it bothering her so bad. I knew on Wed. and Sun. nights a lot of the older ladies would wear pants because they would get cold.
I do remember her wearing dress a lot when I was little. Seeing pics of her when she was younger, she always had dresses on. Even when she was older, she wore house dresses. She was comfortable in them. She did wear pants too.
I remember when I was little, she always put dresses on me and those ruffed panties. Socks with the lace and black patton shoes. She always said nothing was sweeter than a little girl in dresses. I had long, natural curly hair and she would always take my hair and wrap it around her fingers. I would have this big long curls laying down my back. She called them banana curls. I think that is why I was so anti dresses when I was older.LOL I do wear skirts now, just not everyday or around the farm. I like skirts or jumpers because to me they are just more comfortable. I just can remember her telling me you just look more like a lady in a dress. Well thanks for letting me share that memory of her with you all. sheryl
Sounds like your grandmother was a sweet woman! I hope that my other message didn't make you think that I was trying to push my opinion on you. I just got a little upset that the other lady feels that what she does has no effect on others. I hope that your search for a new church home is going well. God bless you!
