Well today sure was a truly wild one. We started back to school yesterday and all went well. Then today, schooling wasn`t the problem, but the chicken coop was. We had done a couple of our subjects and I told the kids I needed to go out feed and water the chickens. We go out there and I am putting feed into the feeder and one of my hens gets out the door on me. She takes off. I am unable to let my chickens run free because of my dogs. Matter of fact, I lost two hens last week because my dog got loose and pulled them though the pen. So here she is, flying around and us chasing after her. She takes off and goes in to the weeds and I am not able to get her. All I kept thinking is I am going to find a big snake, or the kids would. I figured she is gone and I would not see her again. I went back to the feed, so I could get feed for my chickens at the barn. Just as I went to step down, there was this huge black snake, eating a rat. Which at the time I didn`t know at the time. I have a hoe and I am poking it with this hoe and I guess I made it mad. Because it was striking at the hoe.( I forgot to mention it was under some old lumber and at first I was poking at it tail. It was after I moved the lumber, when I saw the rat.) Well it takes off under the chicken coop and I was afraid to jump down because I just knew it would get me. But it didn`t.
Well after that, we went back in to finish up school. About an hour had went by and I looked out to check on my chickens and sure enough my hen was out there trying to get back in. I went out and got her and return her with the others.
Now with all that over and done with. I started to go to the store and I was out of checks. So I went to look for them and I guess I have misplaced a whole box of checks. Oh well maybe tomorrow will be better.
I did manage to get a baby quilt top pieced this weekend and I hope to get it quilted this weekend. I am going to hand quilt it. It might take two weekends.
Well I didn`t get much out of the garden. I did manage to get some corn put up and I may have some ready tomorrow. Everything around here is just dying. We get rain but just not enough. Our creeks have been dried up for sometime now. Oh well there is next year.
On the goats, I did sell my billy goat. I now just have my three nanny goats.
