Well after one of the worst weeks of my life it is time to get back into the swing of things. My papaw passed away peacefully at 9:40 am on Wednesday Jan. 7. He is now in heaven with my mamaw. He had so many turn out for his visitation. One of our neighbors said everyone wanted to come and pay their respects because he was the oldest neighbor. He had moved to our community 70 years ago. He was 94 years old.
My aunt, mom and I are planning on making quilts for Hospice. We are talking about getting together once a week and working on them. My aunt has a friend, who said, she would quilt them if we would piece them. The quilts are given to the ones in Hospice and then are given to the family as a keepsake. Hospice was so great to my family both times. We just want to give back to them. They are truly there for the families.
I need to start some planning. There is a bunch of cleaning I need to get done. I would like to get it done before spring gets here. Spring is always such a busy time. Softball season and that keeps me running. Then preparing the garden and planting. My mom and I are planning on doing a couple of new flower beds and redoing the yard. I can`t wait. I am starting getting cabin fever. I am outdoor type person. I love working outside. More so than working in the house. I am still working on my garden plans. I have a general idea of what I want to plant but I am sure I will change a little bit from last year. I do hope to get more canned than what I did last year. My mom will be here this year and we will help each other can. That way it is not so hard on one person. We have lots of projects to do.
I am really wanting to get back into sewing. I have been missing it. I really need to make some quilts for the house. Some of my quilts are getting thin and wore out. I going to get started on them some time this week. It doesn`t take me long to piece one. It`s the cutting that takes me so long. I thought, while I was a practice with the kids I would piece some by hand. I have a goal that one day I will be able to reach. I want to piece and quilt a quilt all by hand. Then I would like to entry it in the country fair. You would think I would be able to do that. I come from a long line of quilts. One day I am going to make a crazy quilt. When I was little, I was always asking my mamaw if I could make a crazy quilt. She would always tell me they would be to hard for me. Of course, I was like 9 or 10 years old. One day I am going to try it. Don`t know until you try it.
I am so sorry to hear about your father. I wanted to mention something to you that you might like. I did this to my best friend when her father passed away. go through all of your fathers shirts and look for the all cotton ones. I had my friend do this, since her father wore nice work shirts every day. I then took them all home, took each shirt and took them apart at the seams, and made quilts for all of her family and relatives. You would be amazed at how much material there is in just an arm piece. I started out making simple nine patches and she had alot of leftover material for other quilts.
I also had her save some for making posable teddy bears for all the grandkids out of their papas shirts.
I hope this gives you some ideas.
So sorry for your loss. The holidays were "different" for me being the first ones without my Dad. The hurt does get better at times, but you will always be thinking of him. My prayers are with you.

I'm so sorry. You were so blessed to have known your Papaw - one of mine died before I was born and the other died when I was 2, so I never got to know either one of them. I think that the quilt idea for hospice is awesome!
Blessings,
Carol

I'm so sorry to hear about Papaw. Sounds like a lived a good life to be that age. I've been a quilter for 4 years now but didnt learn how to make the crazy quilt either. Hopefully someday I'll learn. Glad to hear your family will get together to make quilts for hospice.
I'll keep all of you in my prayers. Jeanne
