• Monday, December 29, 2008 - Garden planning time and papaw
I just wanted to update everyone on my papaw. He broke his hip when he fell a couple of weeks ago. It took them over a week to find it out. So now, my family, has a big decision to make. Try and let him have the surgery to fix it or let him go into hospice. So far, two of his doctors said he is not able to go though the surgery. I guess, he will be going into hospice because they can give him the care he will need. I haven`t talked to anyone today so there could be a change, but I doubt it. By the way, the doctor talked, he will probably have only 6 mos. to live. If not sooner. It just breaks my heart to know we are going to lose him. I know that he is ready to go be with mamaw. He told my aunt just a couple days before he fell, that he wouldn`t be here much longer. He pointed to the picture of him and mamaw and said she was calling to come and be with her.
Trying to keep all this off my mind, I have been planning my garden. Planting time will start in March. That will be here before long. I am not going to plant as much as I did last year. I just about killed myself trying to can it all by myself. But we are enjoying it all now.
All the chickens are gone now except a rooster. My son just couldn`t get rid of him. I guess in a couple of weeks we will be butchering the hog. Well going to have him butchered. We are not going to do it. Hubby said he wasn`t messing with this one.
I made a big pot of vegetable soup for supper tonight. Of course, I already had to taste a little bit to make sure it was good. It was. Well I am going to go and call to check on papaw.
I'm so sorry about your Papaw falling. Hospice will probably be the best place for him. I hope your garden is exactly as you like it to be. You sound so down and I wish I could help!
blessings,
~Farrah
I was so very sorry to read about your Pawpaw. My own Daddy is now 87 and seems to grow more fragile all the time. We truly take everything one day at a time. So far, no broken bones, though. This would be a VERY hard decision to make-my prayers are with you and your family.
I am a stay-at-home, Christian homeschooling mom. My husband and I have been married for 19 years. We have been blessed with three kids, ages 18, 10 and 8. We live on a family farm and have several animals. I`m just a simple farm gal, who loves her God, family, friends and life.
