Snow is finaly here!Posted on 2009-Dec-10 at 11:28 by KimMC - 1 Comments - Post Comment - LinkWell I guess I spoke to soon. Less then an hour after posting last night about the lack of snow...yup it started snowing! LOL We've been getting squalls all night, about 6 inches so far. They are saying we might get up to 60 cm (2 feet) of snow in the next 24 hours. Again today all the busses in the area were cancelled and most of the schools closed. I bet the kids are all thrilled to have two snow days in a row. That's one thing I do like about homeschooling. When the weathers bad we carry on as normal here. But when the winds calm and the day is nice we can have a real snow day and get out and play.
Right now the snow is coming down very heavy, you can hardly see out the window!
Thinking about how the USA economy effects our Canadian economyPosted on 2009-Dec-9 at 10:11 by KimMC - 2 Comments - Post Comment - LinkSome thoughts on what would happen to the Canadian economy if the US experiences a hyper inflation. Talking about global warming What do you think??Posted on 2009-Dec-9 at 07:41 by KimMC - 3 Comments - Post Comment - LinkOn our YouTube channel dh has been talking about the global warming theory. There are many interesting comments under the videos if anyone is interested in more info.
What storm? Knitting and CookiesPosted on 2009-Dec-9 at 07:22 by KimMC - 5 Comments - Post Comment - LinkWell the storm passed with out giving us much more then strong wind, a dusting of snow and lots of rain. It rained most of the afternoon and washed away half the snow in our yard. But about 4pm the wind switched to the west and started to snow again. We are out of the storm warning, but still under a snow squall warning for today and tomorrow. The winds are suppose to be 60km/h gusting to 90km/h much like last night. But the house feels much warmer now. When we have east winds it always gets so cold hear. Wood stoves been going strong all day and I'm so glad for it!
Hubbys napping, he's bushed. He was working all day taking huge logs out of the bush and up to the shop for a farmer. He came home soaked and cold from the rain/snow. Nut, but he loves that kind of work. I'm not a cold weather person, it just hurts my joints to much. He loves all the elements.
He has tomorrow off, so he's planning to work in the summer kitchen all day. He still has lots to do out there.
I have almost 3 inches done on the balaclava. I would be farther along, but dd2 was very fussy this afternoon. She decided Momma must hold and cuddle her all afternoon.
I just wish I could have convinced her to nap with me. lolI promised the little ones, tomorrow we would bake some cookies. We'll probably start with hubbys favorites peanut butter chocolate chip. Maybe do some gingerbread ones to. It depends how much energy I have lol. But either way I have Sunday planned as a baking day with the kids to. In my order from Christianbook.com the kids surprise pack included some mini gingerbread house cookie cutters. I want to try making some mini houses with the girls. I bet they will love that. I need to get some candies to decorate them with.
Cold and SnowPosted on 2009-Dec-9 at 09:47 by KimMC - 2 Comments - Post Comment - LinkThe wind howled all night, its funny how much louder the wind is in the winter. We didn't get much snow last night at all, just a dusting. I'm thinking all the snow just went around us lol. As all the schools were closed in the area and they are saying the roads are bad.
It did start snowing here hard about 8:30am. We are under a winter storm and snow squall warnings. Looks like we'll have a lot of winter weather today and tomorrow.
I will say it's COLD. The wind was from the east all night and that always makes the house cold. I know it's really cold when dh comes in the house fussing about it. lol He is a winter person, I'm a sit inside by the fire person. LOL!
I started knitting a balaclava last night and it's going quite well. I'm using a bulky yarn so it will work up faster. Well I'm going to go sit by the fire and knit for a bit.
Winter stormsPosted on 2009-Dec-8 at 08:34 by KimMC - 3 Comments - Post Comment - LinkWe are under a winter storm warning...Some time tonight it's suppose to start. I wonder if I should believe them this time? LOL We are suppose to get 10 to 15 cm of snow with high winds, then rain tomorrow, then a flash freeze and more snow. That will be a nice icy mess eh?
Today was a slow day, I just couldn't get moving. I am almost caught up on laundry now, whoo hoo! lol And just a load of dishes left from tonight.
I made a roast beef for supper. There was lots of meat left over, that will make some yummy stir fries and sandwiches this week. ![]() Yesterday I decided to tackle some of the carrots we harvested. I peeled and cut about 3/4's of a sink full. And messed up my shoulder again. (sigh) LOL So I put the carrots in a pot of cold water over night. I just put them in the canner now. Don't ask me how many carrots I have left to can! LOL!!! What a mixed up garden/weather year it was. They should have been ready to can in Aug. but they weren't until Oct.
Hubby just came in saying how cold it was outside. That the east wind has started. I wonder how much longer till the snow starts....
Oh yes, yesterday I got dh to take me to Walmart. And this one was pretty much out of black fleece to! LOL
Starting to laugh yet? I got the woman to measure out the tiny bit left and it was 3 inches short of a meter. Also the one end had a big half circle cut out of it....That just wouldn't do for a blanket backing lol. So I found a nice winter tree print and a solid blue. I'll use that to make one, and I'm hoping I have enough of the other prints to make a backing from...I have to pull them out tomorrow and see.I did find some pretty light yellow fleece remnants at a great price though. They will make some nice longies for dd.

![]() ![]() Yarn picsPosted on 2009-Dec-7 at 10:33 by KimMC - 6 Comments - Post Comment - LinkThis is the yarn that followed me home on Saturday. LOL The black cascade is the one that was matted and tangled in the center. The greenish/blue wool beside it I love! Each ball is 50 grams. So that would be about 6 oz all together. Its DK weight. Not enough for a shawl...Any ideas? ![]() A little about the candy canePosted on 2009-Dec-7 at 10:12 by KimMC - 1 Comments - Post Comment - LinkA little history about the candy cane, why its colored and shaped the way it is.
