Wise words from someone older

{ 06:57, Tuesday, January 15, 2008 } { Posted in Thoughts } { 3 comments } { Link }

I woke up earlier than normal this morning so I have had plenty of early morning time to pray, read and think.  I love this time of the day.  Here are some things I am reflecting on today.

I had a great conversation with a woman that I respect very much yesterday and one of the things that was on her heart was the current state of the US economy. ( It seems everywhere I go I hear words of concern.)  She is alot older than I and has had alot more life experience than myself.  She voiced concern over those who as she puts it 'can't see whats happening'.  She is concerned for those who are not in a position to withstand the hardships that she believes is coming.  She spoke of the role of women today v/s the way it was when she was younger.  The way she believes the Bible says it is supposed to be.  She spoke of the children who don't even know how to play outside, and haven't been taught values or respect.  The fact that no one is shocked at some of the things that go on.  You could see the compassion on her face.  She spoke of the Bible and how these things will come to pass.  As I left, I pondered what changes this woman has seen.  I am amazed at the difference the last 20 years has made.  It is hard to imagine what it must be like looking through her eyes.  The changes she has seen.  None of which must look like an improvement on mankind-lol.  You could see the love of a much simpler time in her eyes.  I think that is what I long for--the simple-life---where the day is full of the work of your hands.  Showing my children there is another way to live.  I do not know what to say about "the economy"--it doesn't look good to me....so much debt...so  much unemployment.  We have felt the effects of it even here on the farm.  The cost of fuel and goods has made things tighter.  My husband still works for a factory and his hours have decreased---no production days have become a weekly event.  I don't know where it is all going but I do know that I am greatful that God has put us in a position to be able to withstand the storm.  Do we have it all together?  NO.  But we are blessed with the ability to make it work if we had to.  Our survival does not depend on a paycheck...it makes it alot more comfortable...but we can survive without it.  We have the comfort and protection that our faith gives us.  I hope we are all wrong about a time of hardship....so many people do not know how to live without money or are not in a position to be without an income.  I cannot imagine what it must have been like to live through the last depression or in a land where there is lack.  I have been blessed to not know hunger, or the inability to care for my children and loved ones.  We are blessed in so many ways.  I wonder if we have taken our blessed lives forgranted......Do we as a country have the ability to recover if those things were to happen again?  I think so......but for many remembering that it wasn't that long ago when we had a Presidential Campaign speech that included "A chicken in every pot" ------ not so long ago history----its worth thinking about.  Blessings>Faith Farm

    I enjoyed reading your post today. I speak with my grandmother's weekly and they both reiterated what you said. They are concerned about the state of the Earth. One thinks the Lord is going to come back soon because of the state of the world.
    I liked your post on honey. I'd forgotten the sugar to honey ratio.
    Have a blessed day!

    I enjoyed reading this post and seeing what your older friend thought of the world today. It is true, all of it. I am amazed at how the world has changed as well. Kids don't know how to entertain themselves without a computer, a gameboy or music. What happened to the days when I was little and could play outside for hours with no toys, just making up games and stories as me and my friends went along the day.

    Thanks for sharing the post and the bible verses!

    God's Blessings,
    Amy Jo

    Ironic.
    I was just telling a friend today, and my dh, yesterday, that I feel this next election will bring disaster on our country.....to the point I feel strongly led to 'get out of debt, and start preparing for the worst."
    This post is perfect timing.
