Economy

As I was sitting here this morning, looking at the headlines (as I do most mornings) I can't help but think about  the current situation our government and economy are in.  I continue to read stories about the US dollar failing or falling, fuel prices rising, and heaven knows the cost of food has sky rocketed.  Not to mention the continous threat of terrorism around the globe.  I wonder how many people God has prepared for a time such as this.  I know God has worked a miracle in our lives.  Moving us to a more self-suffecient life style.  We are far from done.  We are planning to start solar and other projects to help make us more independent this next year.  Do I have another year to prepare?  I think so.  I don't know so.  We have already felt the hard impact of the economy on our finances this year.  My husband works in production and "business has not been good".

I am so greatful for the skills that I have learned over the last 2 years.  I know how to take care of goats, chickens, and rabbits.  I can milk a goat and make cheese.  I have grown a garden and learned the art of a pressure cooker.  I have learned to sew a bit and can do some needle work.  We have put in a wood stove and built a house and small barns.  I have put up hay and feed for winter.  All these things are new to me.  The friends I have made are real friends.  I am always surprised when someone walks up to me and asks me how to do some of these things.  I love to share what I have learned.  There are more and more people every week that want to know how to live this away.  Who would of ever thought giving up everything and starting over could have turned out so well.  I have learned so much.  I have been blessed so much.  God is good!

The Lord used that y2k "scare" to move us closer to our goal. It seemed so far-fetched to think of our economy collapsing with a mere time change issue, but then again, it seemed fairly possible at times. Our society runs by the technology it has created. The saying 'that which does not kill you makes you stronger' hardly seems to be an adage for our society. Little things like a time change could very well do us in one day.
I'm joining you in the praise and thankfulness of all I have learned to do in the past many years....and praying for the time to continue learning ;o)

SOOO glad to hear someone else sing the same song we've been singing for years. Our dream is about to come true. We move this weekend. It is not a perfect situation, but it works for us for the time being.
And on your economic musings.....my very wise mother once told me that some day we will have to 'retreat to the hills' to live and that it would be very handy for me to know how to do some things that most women have never heard of....harking back to a generation of self sufficiency. My husband believes very strongly that in our lifetime women will be seeking me out to learn some of the basic skills I know, such as canning (putting away), sewing, knitting, etc....not sure about that, but am VERY thankful to a wise mother who made me stay in the kitchen and learn all those skills!!!! Thanks for stopping by my blog. Visit again sometime!

I was thinking the same thing yesterday. I'm not as prepared as I should be, although I can do a lot of things that would serve my family well in a crisis. As I watched the news, I was very happy to be living where I'm living, because God made sure I met other Godly women who will know how to do something if I don't and will teach me how!
