Spring Cleaning

03:03, Friday, April 18, 2008 .. 1 comments .. Link

Well the last couple of days have been rainey and cooler here in Kansas, so, I have started my spring cleaning. A friend and I started in my sewing room, which is in the attic of my house, and have rearranged almost everything, thrown away lots, and am now starting to paint the walls a very pale pink, called babies breath. There is only one small window up there so this light color should make it seem brighter. I purchased a new bigger cutting table and cutting mat which will help my back lots since I won't have to lean over to work any more. Yeah!

Well, I better get back to work, the day is getting away from me.

Blessings,

Jan

High Winds

11:29, Tuesday, April 15, 2008 .. 0 comments .. Link

The weather here is warmer, which is really nice, however the winds are terrable! The other night they got up to 60 mph. The next morning I found our big gas grill turned over on the driveway, with the handle broken off of it - bummer. Tonight the wind is really blowing, don't know how strong it is, but it has to be at least 40 mph or better. I hope the nice temps will stay around for awhile, I really need to clean out my garden spot and the flower beds. The spring flowers and flowering trees and bushes here are beautiful. The trees are just about to get their leaves. It will be so nice to see green trees again.

Charlee, my corgi and I have started our daily walks again. We need them after the long winter and all of that comfort food. She just got over a bladder infection so now that she feels better she is always anxious to go.

I have been working on two quilt tops for clients, hope to get them both done by the end of next week. I would like to finish up a couple of my own tops and get them to the quilter before too long.

I have decided against opening the tea room that I was talking about in my last blog. With my husbands health issues now just isn't a good time - maybe someday.

Blessings to All,

Jan

Spring?

12:36, Tuesday, April 8, 2008 .. 0 comments .. Link

Well, here I am again after a very long time.

Lots has happened since my last post, My husband had cancer surgery again. They got the tumer but the surrounding tissue didn't come back clean, so he is back on chemo. We are beleaving God for his complete healing. He also has a new job and is working in Arkansas, so we are on the road a lot going back and forth between Kansas and Arkansas. The town that he is at is in the mountains and is a lovely place I love to go to.

My daughter just moved to Kansas City to be closer to her new job, so now I have a good excuse to go to KC more often. There is so much to see and do there. Now, I just need to learn how to get around in such a LARGE town.

I am looking at a space to maybe rent that is perfect for a tea room. This has been a dream of mine for a long time. If anybody out there has a tea room or any advise on the subject I would love to hear from you. This just kind of came up, I don't even have a business plan yet! Thanks for your imput.

We have had a couple of nice days here, but spring just doesn't seem to want to come and stay. It is cold and damp here today. It got dangerously close to freezing a few miles west of here last night, hope it doesn't freeze here and kill all of the pretty spring flowers that have started to bloom!

Blessings,

Jan

Happy New Year

Happy New Year!!

It has been a very cold day here today! Still lots of snow on the ground. Had coffee with a very dear friend this morning, lunch then we finally exchanged our Christmas gifts. She was sick with the flu on Christmas. It was a lovely way to start the new year with a good friend. My husband is back to work in Arkansas for a couple of weeks until his cancer surgery the middle of this month and our granddaughter that we raised for 14 years is back in Florida -so- it is just me the dog and cat. I do get to spend time with my little grandchildren quite often, they don't live but a few blocks from me. I love it.

I am getting ready to start on the two comissioned quilts for clients in the next couple of days, would like to have the antique blocks set together by the time of my husbands surgery. I have an unfinished crazy quilt block that I haven' t worked on for quite sometime, that I plan on getting out and working on while my hubby is in the hospital. God is good, we are standing in faith that the surgery will be a success and a speedy recovery.

I am looking for some good soup recipes, if you have one to share I would love to have it. Thanks!

My corgi is telling me it is time to eat,so I will sign off for now.

Gods blessings to all.

Holidays

It has been quite sometime since I have written in my blog!! My husband has lost a job, got a new one in Arkansas (we live in Kansas) and we found out that his cancer has come back. He has been taking chemo treatments, but now is facing surgery on January 16th. We are standing on our faith that the surgery will be successful and that they can get it all!!  Please keep him in your prayers, thanks.

I lost my Dad in Sept. to lung cancer after a long summer spent mostly in the hospital. I miss him so much! With his death we had to keep Mom in the nursing home, she has alshimers (sorry, don't know how to spell this) and needs constant care.

On a good note, my son, who has been working in Japan got to come home for Thanksgiving and Christmas. It has been so good to see and be with him and his lovely family. I am blessed that they live very close and I get to see my wonderful grandchildren often. He will have to go back the 19th of January for about a month, then home for good!

My sewing, quilting business has increased a little. I have one quilt top to put together for a lady with some blocks that her grandmother made years ago. Another lady has a pattern that she wants made up of a Radient Star or Star of Bethlehem. That one will take awhile to get done. The quilt shop where I work part time wants some shop samples made, so all of this will keep me busy. I belong to a doll club with one of my online groups and I want to get some clothes made for my doll, so I will work on that, by hand, while in the hospital with my husband.

I could go on and on but will close for now.

Happy New Year to all!

Been busy!

Hi,

I haven't written for quite some time now. I have been trying to get my sewing business going. I now have a few clients and am working on two quilts, one an old quilt top and the other an old flower garden quilt top that a lady wants made into a quilt for her granddaughter. This past weekend has been the annual quilt shop hop in our area. The quilt shop that I work at has been busy getting ready for this event for weeks. It is so much fun getting to go to all of the differant shops and talking to all of the other quilters out there.

My corgi, got sick, the vet said that she had caught some kind of a virus! It really scarred me because I feed her Iams dog food and this is when all of that publicity was out about the bad food. My vet said that it wasn't anything from her food, she only eats the dry. She is much better now.

I did get all 16 Easter Ornaments made for my online group for the exchange. Now I am waiting for the Easter Bunney to deliver 16 ornaments back to me for my Easter Tree. What fun!

Well, tomorrow is my birthday. Not sure what I will be doing outside of going to church in the morning and dinner with my daughter-in-law and two of my grandchildren. My son is working in Japan so he can't be at the dinner. :-(

The weather here has been beautiful, well at least warm. We have had rain for the last two days, and today it was very windy and very cool. Hoping for a warmer day tomorrow and sunshine.

Blessings to all.

Snow again

10:47, Thursday, March 1, 2007 .. 0 comments .. Link

Yesterday it got up into the high 60's, it was very beautiful. I had to work at the quilt shop so I missed being outside most of the day. :-(  Then, early evening the wind really came in strong along with big clouds and cooler temps. When I woke up this morning it was snowing and cold, so I stayed in and got all of the mending done for a cleint. Charlee, my corgi, and I did go for a walk late morning, but there was chunks of ice falling from the trees so we cut it short. There was ice on the west side of everything making it very gray looking. Finally the sun came out and melted all of the snow - yeah, then on the weather report tonight they said we are in for more snow.

A lady brought in an old quilt that her grandmother had made years ago, it is very worn, beyond repair, so I am going to make pillows for her out of the blocks that are in OK shape, this way she can preserve part of the quilt and use the pillows for decorating. I have another old quilt that the top of the quilt looks like it was in the sun and the fabric is rotting. On this one I think I will just cut off the top row and rebind the whole quilt.

I am on an Easter Ornament exchange with one of my online groups, have to make 17 ornaments and get sent before March 20th, so I better get busy on that. Finally settled on what to make tonight, will get started on them tomorrow.

Probably won't be posting for a few days.

Blessings to All,

Jan

Hi,

I am so excited, I think I finally have this figured out. :-)

One of my on line groups is having an Easter ornament exchange, so, I have been trying to figure out what to do. I have to make 17 ornaments, so I can't get too carried away. Think I came up with what I am going to do today, can't wait to get started, but that will have to wait until Thursday, I have to go to work tomorrow. I work one day a week at one of our local quilt shops. Will say good night for now.

Blessings,

Jan

New Entry??

12:45, Tuesday, February 27, 2007 .. 1 comments .. Link

Hello,

I have been trying to get a new entry on my blog for about a month now! I don't know if this one will work or not. I am soooooo frustrated!!! I feel like a real dummy with this site, can't get it figured out. I have not found the support very helpful, sorry to say.

Anyway, I am going to try to send this one, again.

I got the two doll quilts done that I was doing for clients, plus a quilt block and two pillowcases. I need more orders. Hopefully they will come in soon.

My son just left for Japan to work on the new hospital that they are building on the Navy base there, he is an electrician. He just arrived today, but I already miss him terrably. It was very hard for him to leave his family, 3 wondrful children and a beautiful wife, but it was too good of an opportunity to pass up. He gets to come home in eight weeks for a short vacation then back for ieght more weeks until his eight months are done. I pray for God to keep him safe every minute of every day.

Better close for now, have a basketfull of mending and hems to do for a client. Would rather be quilting or making dolls, but money is money. We all have to do what we have to do.

Blessings,

Jan

Valentines

11:53, Monday, February 12, 2007 .. 0 comments .. Link

My how the time does get away from me. I have been busy these last two weeks making valentines. I was on two online groups, then there was my quilt and tea groups here at home, not to mention family and friends! Whew, that was a lot of valentines.

I will be making valentine cookies for my grandchildren tomorrow to put in each of thier canisters with hearts and thier names on them. I have already given each of them thier valentine pillowcases. For every holiday I make them a pillowcase. They always look forward to them, in fact my little grandson, Ronin, will place his order early sometimes, telling me what he would like the fabric to be. I did this for my children when they were growing up, we have lots of pillowcases!

I have been working on a new design for a small quilt wallhanging for Easter. I think I might try to sell it on ebay. I have never listed anything to sell before, just purchased items. I will post a picture when I get it done.

We have a gentle snow falling tonight, it is beautiful.

Happy Valentines Day to all.

Quilt

11:42, Monday, February 5, 2007 .. 4 comments .. Link

Well I just finished a small doll quilt for a friend on one of my online groups. It was fun to make one so small. Please check my pictures to see what it looks like.

I have another doll quilt to make, am working on it now. It will be the same pattern, only with different pastel fabrics instead of all the same color fabric. I will post that picture as soon as I get it done.

If anybody is interested in a doll quilt, please let me know and I will be happy to make you one. The one pictured now is 11&1/4" by about 15", the nine patch blocks are made up of 3/4" squares. It is peiced on the machine and hand quilted. All fabric is 100% cotton, even the batting. Price is $35.00 + shipping and handling. I can make any size and of course any color.

It got a little warmer here today, in the 30's, so much of the snow has melted.

I have also been making valentines. I was on two online exchange groups plus my quilt & tea groups here at home, needless to say I have been making lots of valentines. It has been lots of fun, can't wait to open all of the ones I have recieved on Valentines Day.

Better get back to that quilt.

Hello

03:48, Tuesday, January 23, 2007 .. 7 comments .. Link

Hello to everyone out there. This is my first blog, so here goes.

For the last several days I have been busy making Valentine Paper dolls for one online group and big girl and doll size Valentines for another online group. I finally finished today and am going to put them in the mail this afternoon. Had lots of fun, quite a mess on my dining room table though. I still have more to make for my small quilting group and tea group here in town, oh yes, my family. Whew, when will it end?

I am a quilter, and have a quilt that I need to get finished quilted for my dh, it is a surprise.

I live in the city, but my heart and soul is in the country. My husband doesn't like country life so I doubt that I will ever get there. My brother just bought some ground not too far out - guess I will have to be happy to enjoy his country place, of which I am thankful.

I am in the process of trying to get a home business going with my sewing and quilting. I will post pictures soon.

Tea is one of my other passions. One of my dear friends here started a small tea group several years ago. We meet once a month at each others homes and have a tea party, it is so much fun. We also try to go on a few tea outings throughout the year, looking for new tearooms and tea shops.

My other loves are my God, children, grandchildren, corgi-Charlee (I have a picture of her posted), horses, anything old and gardening.

I am a true fan of Tasha Tudor, her art and lifestyle. I have read everything I can get a hold of about her, she is a lady to be admired.

Well, that is about it, better get to the post office to get those Valentines mailed.

Take Joy,

Jan
