It is a nice rainey day today with the temp in the upper 70's. Charlee has already gone back to bed for a nice nap.
My daughter-in-law and I bought these beautiful gooseberries at the farmers market, so now they are waiting to be stemmed and put into a pie for the 4th of July picnic. That will be what I do after I get off of work this evening, wow, there are a lot of stems!!!
Tomorrow is the 4th of July, a time to not only enjoy all of the fireworks and picnics, but to also remember what all our forefathers went thru to get us our freedom!!! We need also to ask God to keep on Blessing America!!
Have a safe, fun-filled 4th, Jan Beautiful Morning

We have another beautiful morning here in Kansas, nice and cool, I even have the windows open. It is so nice to have a reprive from the high temps we had been having. I worked on the quilt that the dog had chewed holes in yesterday and got it all done. This is the second quilt I have repaired 'dog holes' in it in the past two months! Something about these quilts that the dogs love to chew on. I had an antique quilt at the foot of my bed many years ago that my dog chewed most of the end of it off!
These top pictures are of the damage!
Here it is all fixed. Now the quilter just needs to fix the quilting and it will be ready to give back to my clients little grandson. I have been doing the Minnisota Blog Hop this week, what fun! Have learned some neat things and gotten some nice free patterns. There are only 3 days left, but you should check it out. Go to www.gudrun.typepad.com to get a list of all of the bloggers that are in the hop. Next project is an apron for my Etsy shop. Can't wait to get started on it --it is so cute. The pattern has an adult and a childs size, not sure I am going to do the childs yet, will have to see how it works up. Got up this morning and made some Berry Buckle for desert for my small quilt group tonight. The house smells wonderful!!
I have some wool in some beet juice that I made a couple of days ago, hopefully I will have some lovely pink wool for my quilt group tonight. I love working with wool, it is so forgiving. I need to get out a project that I started quite sometime ago and get it finished someday. So much to do, so little time! Blessings to All, Jan Summer is here!

Well it has been a looooong time since I have written!! Life sure seems to get in the way sometimes. It is summer here in Kansas for sure. The past week we had temps in the 90's with heat index in the 100's! We did get a break from the heat Sat and Sun evenings, however it still gets hot during the day. We had so much rain in the spring that I was unable to get my garden plot worked up in time to plant. I am really missing having a vegitable garden!! Been going to the Farmers Market every Sat. My daughter-in-law and I bought some wonderful Georga peaches last Sat. Instead of making a pie, I decided to make a peach cobler, it turned out really yummy! Was going to take a picture of it, but it didn't last long enough! We bought gooseberries too, that will go into a pie for the 4th of July picnic. My flowers have really been pretty so far. I love sunflowers, it is our state flower, and the ones that just came up under the bird feeder are blooming and beautiful. I plan on drying the large ones and save the seeds for the birds this fall. I have been listing items on my Etsy shop. Have sold some items so now am busy making new tea cozy's to relist. A friend of mine gave me a new apron pattern that I am anxious to get made up, it is really cute! Hope to get it listed by the end of this week. If you read this blog I hope you will check out my shop at fabraholic4.etsy.com. I have some interesting patriotic fabric for sale on there now. Gosh, I had better get busy sewing, the day is getting away fast. Blessings to All, Jan

Today was Tasha Tudor's Birthday, she would have been 93, but she passed away on June 18th of this year. I have been a huge fan of her's for years. She was a very talanted lady and passionate gardner. The lifestyle that she lived was, for me, admirable. Several of us fans, we call ourselfs Kindred Spirits, had tea today in her honor, all accross the United States and probably around the world. She had a large following in Japan. This wonderful lady is and will be missed by many. Take Joy, Jan Spring Cleaning

Well the last couple of days have been rainey and cooler here in Kansas, so, I have started my spring cleaning. A friend and I started in my sewing room, which is in the attic of my house, and have rearranged almost everything, thrown away lots, and am now starting to paint the walls a very pale pink, called babies breath. There is only one small window up there so this light color should make it seem brighter. I purchased a new bigger cutting table and cutting mat which will help my back lots since I won't have to lean over to work any more. Yeah! Well, I better get back to work, the day is getting away from me. Blessings, Jan High Winds

The weather here is warmer, which is really nice, however the winds are terrable! The other night they got up to 60 mph. The next morning I found our big gas grill turned over on the driveway, with the handle broken off of it - bummer. Tonight the wind is really blowing, don't know how strong it is, but it has to be at least 40 mph or better. I hope the nice temps will stay around for awhile, I really need to clean out my garden spot and the flower beds. The spring flowers and flowering trees and bushes here are beautiful. The trees are just about to get their leaves. It will be so nice to see green trees again. Charlee, my corgi and I have started our daily walks again. We need them after the long winter and all of that comfort food. She just got over a bladder infection so now that she feels better she is always anxious to go. I have been working on two quilt tops for clients, hope to get them both done by the end of next week. I would like to finish up a couple of my own tops and get them to the quilter before too long. I have decided against opening the tea room that I was talking about in my last blog. With my husbands health issues now just isn't a good time - maybe someday. Blessings to All, Jan Spring?

Well, here I am again after a very long time. Lots has happened since my last post, My husband had cancer surgery again. They got the tumer but the surrounding tissue didn't come back clean, so he is back on chemo. We are beleaving God for his complete healing. He also has a new job and is working in Arkansas, so we are on the road a lot going back and forth between Kansas and Arkansas. The town that he is at is in the mountains and is a lovely place I love to go to. My daughter just moved to Kansas City to be closer to her new job, so now I have a good excuse to go to KC more often. There is so much to see and do there. Now, I just need to learn how to get around in such a LARGE town. I am looking at a space to maybe rent that is perfect for a tea room. This has been a dream of mine for a long time. If anybody out there has a tea room or any advise on the subject I would love to hear from you. This just kind of came up, I don't even have a business plan yet! Thanks for your imput. We have had a couple of nice days here, but spring just doesn't seem to want to come and stay. It is cold and damp here today. It got dangerously close to freezing a few miles west of here last night, hope it doesn't freeze here and kill all of the pretty spring flowers that have started to bloom! Blessings, Jan Happy New Year

Happy New Year!! It has been a very cold day here today! Still lots of snow on the ground. Had coffee with a very dear friend this morning, lunch then we finally exchanged our Christmas gifts. She was sick with the flu on Christmas. It was a lovely way to start the new year with a good friend. My husband is back to work in Arkansas for a couple of weeks until his cancer surgery the middle of this month and our granddaughter that we raised for 14 years is back in Florida -so- it is just me the dog and cat. I do get to spend time with my little grandchildren quite often, they don't live but a few blocks from me. I love it. I am getting ready to start on the two comissioned quilts for clients in the next couple of days, would like to have the antique blocks set together by the time of my husbands surgery. I have an unfinished crazy quilt block that I haven' t worked on for quite sometime, that I plan on getting out and working on while my hubby is in the hospital. God is good, we are standing in faith that the surgery will be a success and a speedy recovery. I am looking for some good soup recipes, if you have one to share I would love to have it. Thanks! My corgi is telling me it is time to eat,so I will sign off for now. Gods blessings to all. |
