We heard back from the realtor and the well isn't dry!  The pump broke back in March, so we know that it wasn't because of the drought here. 

So....we're looking into loans!  The trick is going to be if we can get one with no down payment.  It isn't the first house we have bought, so the first time home buyer's one won't work for us.  If we had sold our house we would have some money to put down, but we have decided to rent it and so do not.

I guess that if everything works out as far as the renters go, getting sub-leasers for this apt we're in now and also getting a loan before someone else snatches the house up---it will have to be close to a miracle.  But miracles do happen!
