No Chickens here....

Posted in Unspecified
I looked up our local laws and we are only allowed up to three adult domesticated animals in our city. (i.e. cats, dogs, hamsters, rabbits, parakeets, etc....)  They specifically say no fowl or livestock.  I guess I can't get a goat either.

I don't want to be breaking any laws even though I really want my own fresh eggs.  Maybe God will lead us to the perfect place for that one day.

It's not the same as having your own, but it's a way to support a local like-minded farmer... www.localharvest.org It's a great site for locating farms, CSA's and such in your area.

And there's nothing wrong with...

trying to change a law that's wrong. Talk to your local leaders, get togther with a group of like minded people, write the local paper, and try to change things for the better from within the system. The food security angle is really getting alot of peoples attention lately, and there are areas all over the country that are easing up on small livestock animal laws. There may already be people in your community working on just such a thing. A letter to the editor of your local paper mentioning your desire to raise chickens, the local laws, laws of other areas that do allow limited poultry, and the food security angle can be a great place to start, and takes little time or effort. Addressing bird flu concerns can be tricky, but not so much so that it's impossible. Just a thought.

Peace,

Raymond
