• 2006-Aug-23 - Mad Lib

Someone was doing this on their blog at homeschoolblogger.com, so my mom made me come down and give her some nouns, verbs, adjectives etc.   This is the story it made.  Here is a link to the mad libs if you want to do them too!  MAD LIBS

Copernicus
Four hundred years ago people knew little about our
brown
universe. They thought that the earth was the
center of the entire sofa and that the sun and all of the
tables revolved around it. But then a/an
Spanish named Copernicus discovered the truth.
The earth revolves around the ball
10
times a year.

Copernicus, whose last name was Dittrich, was born
in Warsaw, and he used one of the first pink
telescopes, which was invented by Daddy.
This primitive telescope was little more than two pieces of
Hamburgers stuck on each end of a/an keyboard.
In 1600 an Italian lifeguard named Galileo
expanded Copernicus's shiny theories, but during the
Inquisition in Italy he was quickly arrested. After
writing for six months in jail, Galileo was
forced to think.

• 2006-Aug-17 - Guests

Last Friday we invited some people named Mr. Jonathan and Miss Katrina over to our house for dinner.   They brought their ice cream maker to make ice cream.  It was really fun and yummy.  It was very hard to turn the ice cream maker at first, but then it got easier.

When Mr. Jonathan and Miss Katrina were about to leave, we had some more guest come over for the night.  Her name was Miss Angela and she had 3 children and she was pregnant.  Her husband came over too.  They had to sleep in my room.  My sister and I slept in our brothers room.

Her children were named Cassie, Seth & Grace.  I had a lot of fun playing with them, especially Cassie.   Cassie is almost 4, Seth is 2 and Grace is almost 1.  When they came Cassie and Seth were screaming for fun at the top of their lungs in the house.  That morning we had pancakes for breakfast.

When it was time for them to leave, my sister asked Miss Angela if they could have some freezepops.  She said "Yes".  She gave my sister, mommy and I a necklace and played the violin for us.  Then it was time to leave.  We had a lot of fun!

• 2006-Jul-1 - The Pool Party

We were going to a pool and we saw our friend there.  They all homeschool like I do.  We had snacks there. I can almost swim.  The water was 4 feet deep and I had to tip toe. There was a tree house and you had to be 6 or older to go in it.  I was past 6 and Abigail was 6.   At first there was no boys allowed, but then the girl who lived there,  named Francesca said the boys were allowed in it.

• 2006-Jun-20 - My Birthday

Yesterday was my birthday. I was 8.  For breakfast I had scrambled eggs and toast with strawberry jelly.  Mommy served it on a special plate. In front of the plate was a fish bowl with a male Betta fish in it.  It is red, purple and pinkish.  I named it "Red" because most of it was red.    I didnt have to do any chores because it was my birthday.  My sister Abigail made me a card.

In the afternoon, my grandma was going to take me shopping (we call her Grammie).  When Grammie called she said she was not able to make it.  I was sad.  Then my mommy said that we could go shopping to buy me a Polly Pocket with the money my other grandmother had sent me.  While we were at the store, we couldnt find the one we wanted, so I decided I could buy a lower priced one and something else.  Then Grammie showed up at the store and took me shopping and I bought a Princess named "Belle",  a rubbery pink hair ball, and some Princess dressup stuff.   When we got home we had pizza for supper and then we had chocolate cake with chocolate icing and Oreo ice cream.  It was Yummy!

• 2006-May-24 - The sprained arm

One Sunday evening in April, I was playing on a little playground that we have and I fell off and sprained my left wrist.  We had to leave very soon for Sunday School class.  When we went their, everybody asked me what did I do to my arm and how did I do it.  My dad bandaged my arm.

On Wednesday night my teacher Miss Shelly prayed for my arm and my mommy prayed for it too!

My arm is much better now!

• 2006-Mar-14 - Yesterday

When we were outside playing, yesterday, it was very hot!  We wanted to go on the slide and we saw fruit flies everywhere. I got a towel and put some water on it and wacked them.  We got very wet by playing with the water from the faucet outside.  B, A, ,& Z brought dinosaurs outside and they got the dinosaurs dirty.  I was playing somewhere else with mud. That was my day.

• 2006-Mar-11 - Maple Sugaring

Yesterday, I went on a field trip with my homeschool co-op to Mill Grove, the home of James Audobon.  We were learning how to make maple syrup and maple sugar.  Everybody arrived and we got our name tags.  Our guides name was Tony.  She  told us that if we want to make maple syrup we should go to a sugar maple tree and drill a hole, in the months of February and March.  Sap comes out of the tree.  The sap looks like water.  She used me to show how much of the sap is suga and it was only to the tip of my boot which is about 2%.  We got to taste the sap from the tree.  We then went to a place where there was fire and there was a story about how the Indians discovered the Maple Syrup and sugar.

"Once there was a indian man who was very tired and he tried to find some food, but he got lost and he found his way back home.  He put his ax in a tree and he went to bed.  His wife woke up the next morning and it was so cold outside that she couldnt go get water from the river and she saw a tree with water at the bottom of it where the indian man put his axe in the tree.  She tasted it and thought it was water.  She brought the sap into the house and put corn and squash and beans and cooked it.  When her husband woke up, he had a taste of it and said 'What did you do to the stew?' and she said ' I did nothing to the stew', he said 'it tastes like something I never tasted before.  Come over here and taste it!".  She came and tasted it and smiled, 'It's sweet water!" She said and that is how they discovered about the sap."

We then went to another fire place and there was a yoke, not an egg yolk, it was like a bull would carry. (mommy here - this place showed how the colonials made maple syrup). Some of the children carried it. Some thought was heavy and some thought they were strong.  There was a boy named Sam who thought he could carry it for an hour.

We went to another place that showed us how we make maple syrups.  There are different kinds of syrup.  We tasted 2 different syrups, the first one was a fake syrup and the second was the real maple syrup.  It takes 40 gallons of sap to make 1 gallon of maple syrup.

We then went to a gift shop and we saw books and maple syrup and maple candy.  The maple candy was very yummy!
