Busyness...We are in the midst of lambing season. We currently have 60 lambs on the ground. We have 3 bottle lambs. A momma had triplets and she had mastitis and couldn't drink from her. She did have milk, but her bag was so out of sorts, they couldn't find the teat. We finally got tired of milking mom and Dh wasn't able to figure out a stantion (spelling?) for her, so we let her out and are now bottle feeding the lambs. I guess we had a couple more, but we sold the lambs early on when they were just a day old. Overall it has been a good lambing season. We had some troubled mamas, but we weren't sure if it was troubles last year or from the selenium deficiency... so we kept the mommas just in case. Those mommas will be sold this year, I'm afraid. A couple are just not good mommas, they push their young away, they don't bond well. I was so proud of Kate, who thought quickly on her feet. One of our momma ewes had triplet stillborn sheep. Kate saw another momma ewe in labor and grabbed a bubble of birth fluid from her and dropped it onto one of our then four bottle lambs. The lamb was three days old, but small in size. The momma was looking for one lamb at least to love and care for and she smelled the birth fluid on the lamb and she started cleaning her up and accepted her right then and there. It was really sweet. The lamb seemed so content to have a momma, too. She was eagerly waiting for her bottles, but she now disregards us and acts as if she never depended on us at all. I guess that is the way it is to be. Hats off to Kate! I've been busy putting my daughter's transcript together. I am done all except for figuring her GPA. I am sooo thrilled. I should get that done tonight, but if not (I need a break from thinking), it will get done tomorrow. We'll apply for college, her scholarships and life will once again be normal... sort of! We have a busy spring and taxes do need filing as well, but things are getting done! Well, I need to get the house in order the rest of the week. Tomorrow I plan to run errands. My daughter's 3rd birthday will becoming up soon. My mother is also coming to visit us as well. So, the plan is to get things back up to par, instead of so wrapped up around this computer, doing record keeping and bills! Warmly, ~Melissa Leave a Comment { Last Page } { Page 87 of 306 } { Next Page } |
