Kates Mission Trip

11:41 AM, April 13, 2007 .. 1 comments .. Link

I announced that Kate got accepted to go.  I thought I would share the process as we go so that we remember it and also we see progress in getting the many things done and needed for the trip.

In February, Kate applied for going on the Maranatha Volunteers Ulimate Workout for Teens mission trip.  This year they are going to Ecuador and will be building churches at 5 sites.  Doing medical outreach at two sites.  VBS at all sites and some door to door evangelism.  Two places have a high malaria precaution... so prevention measures will need to be taken.

Last week we received notice that Kate had been approved to go on the trip.  She was so excited... and still is... it is all she thinks about!   In getting ready, this is what got done last week.

Notarized the permission to fly without a parent at the courthouse.

Applied for a passport, please pray that she gets it in time... I guess they are backed up.

Kate tested a monster cookie recipe for cost and best cooking method for a cookie to be good at day 3 and 4.

Today we will send in payment for the remainder of the trip cost through Maranatha.  We will then still need to come up with funds for airline tickets which are running close to $1700.   Plus there is a fairly good sized list of things she needs to purchase for the trip... a trowel, a hardhat, work shoes, work clothes, plus some items for the locals like prenatal vitamins and lots more... I am not doing the list justice and Kate is fearful of how to get it all packed into her luggage and still be able to fit clothes in for herself.  LOL.

Plans are being concocted for fundraisers, but Kate is still looking for some that she would enjoy doing.  So if you have ideas... she is all ears.  She is currently trying to figure out wording for a letter to send out to friends and relatives.

Kate also is sending in with her payment some paperwork that has to be updated.  She also is sending in her site requests... they get to pick 1-5 of the different sites.   In June, she will find out what site she has been assigned to officially so that we can make last minute preparations for that specific site.

Warmly,  Melissa

Fund raising

12:45 AM, May 7, 2007 .. Posted by Spring978
We included prayer cards in all of our fund raising letters with a special bible verse and a request for everyone to post the prayer card as a reminder to pray for our group. We did our prayer cards on buisness card stock they wher nice to hand out during other fund raisers as well.

Ideas
Bake sale
spaghetti feed with auction of gift baskets ask local buisness to donate for baskets.
we also sold calanders
Yard sale
carnival (orientle trading company for prizes)

We found that no matter what we did God blessed our group and made sure that the funding was available. So what ever ideas you decide take them with prayer he will provide.

They where blessed with the oppurtunity to spend 3 weeks in Guatemala it touched them both and we hope to be able to go back as a family, for at least 2 years. DS16 has a week to decide if he is returning in Aug.

I can not stress enough the importance of drinking your water when that region so many of our teens found themselves very sick from not enough water.

What an exciting blessing for your daughter to be able to participate in.
I will keep her in my prayers both for her fund raising and for her journey.
