We Praise GOD for our own little 'homestead'

I am so excited. I can finally, actually get a blog on homesteadblogger......because we are finally, actually moving to THE COUNTRY. One of the reasons I will love being in this blogging community, is I know there is a wealth of support, information and encouragement here. I will be learning SO much from all of you! And the place isn't ours, actually.....we will be renting, but it is in the middle of a cornfield.....in the middle of 'ag' country. WAYYYYY off the road. With the only neighbor across the road for a long long way. We are already planning. I told hubby the other day that I thought a great 'winter' barn project would be for him and small son to build a coop for the chickens we're going to get in the spring. We've kept chickens before, so that part is not new to us. Small son is SO excited about the chickens. I eventually want a few sheep (thus the blog template, plus it looks like the field next to the house!). I have one huge dream. A fantasy to most. But in my heart of hearts, I know I could do it. I would LOVE to raise sheep for their wool, and then spin my own yarn. When I was a little girl, probably about 5 or 6, I got a "Little Red Spinning Wheel" for Christmas. I still have a picture of it. I made so many little scarves and hot pads on that thing, I think I wore it out. Thus began my love for textiles.....yarn, yarn, YARN. You should just see our current shed!!! PACKED with bins of the stuff. That love of spinning has stayed with me all these years. And that's alot of years! I also have read some stories about sheep and shepherding over my years of being a Bible teacher and the whole concept of it fascinates me. Especially the concept of Christ being our Supreme Shepherd, and us, His sheep. As you can tell, I could get alot of ideas for many things from our little acreage. I will try to keep up with this and my other blog on homeschoolblogger. We move next Friday, a week from tomorrow!!! YIPPEE!!! Denise aka The Domestic Angel |
