Welcome to my World

We Finally Did it..No Satellite

We  finally did it. We turned off the satellite today. After two years of not listening to the Lord, we just couldn't ignore his voice anymore. We have an indoor antenna, and we can get most of the local channels.  Hubby and I aren't quite ready to go "No TV", but baby steps right. The kids will be watching dvd's for the most part and they are fine with that.

While I was gone today for an hour my kids stayed at their grannys and I got home and they said that my son had said the bs word twice.  I asked him where he heard that and he said on a commerical while watching cartoons on Boomerang

I said that I had never heard anything like that on there and if he wasn't telling the truth to come forward now. DJ stepped in and said "He is telling you the truth, I heard it too !

This makes me so angry and sad, but what it did was confirm to me what the Lord has been telling me for a long time.

What's funny is that I was gone to Wal-Mart to buy the Antenna because we had already decided to turn the Satellite off, and the incident with my son happened while I was gone to buy the Antenna.  Isn't God good

Sunday, March 11, 2007 - Taking a Stand

Posted by Keeblur

We, too, have been trying to make some changes. For us, though, it wasn't getting rid of cable or satellite. We've been cutting back on our regular television viewing. The shows we had been watching weren't necessarily offensive, at least we didn't think so at first, the most offensive things were commercials and the little commercial-like things they put on talking about other shows. Just remember to be very careful, because we're finding that local television isn't as family friendly as it used to be.

I agree with Vicki 100% about the local stations. Especially, the commercials. We don't have cable but we do have Sky Angel. We have been pleased with that. However, you still have the commercials. The best thing would be to throw the whole TV out the front door but we haven't gotten there yet.LOL

We had our cable turned off a month or so ago. It has been wonderful! I love not having the 'tube' on all the time. We don't get local channels without an antenna so we are just going all the way without it unless we want to watch a dvd.
What a blessing it will be to your family as well as your pocketbook! :D
Blessings,

We turned our cable off 2 years ago. Also went to Wal-mart and bought an antenae. I remember how shocked we were when we seen local free tv shows. Some are soo bad! It was a real eye opener. We usually just watch a select few now.
Congrats! to you and your determination.
Blessings, Jeanette

we don't have cable/satellite, and don't have an antenna either. On a good day, if the wind blows the right direction, we pick up PBS and good grief, that isn't even worth tuning in anymore :o(
baby steps are a great thing, don't get me wrong! just keep taking them and don't slow down ;o)

Sunday, March 18, 2007 - Good for You!

I wish my hubby would agree to getting rid of our cable. The kids and I don't watch TV during the day but my husband enjoys a program or two in the evening. We are very careful of what we have on, we like the nature & history shows, but what is so awful are the commercials that are shoved out at you. While watching one perfectly acceptable program, a commercial came on about enhacing bedroom performance and the scene was a man picking up a woman at a club...Aaaargh!
