Hello Everyone, Well the onion story is done. I will do the last of the onion dehydrating tomorrow night and the machine was worth it's weight in gold. Here is what the onions looked like after:
Two batches from the dehydrator made enought to fill an extra large container of pancake syrup. I did try an experiment and will not do that again. I took one of the bags of freezer onions and tried to dehydrate them. They ended up being pink and white! They tasted good, but maybe in the thawing process, it turned colors. Oh well, lesson learned. The other major thing this weekend was to see just how much we could recycle in out trash. I started on June 16th and went until today. I found a local recylce place that will take alot that our own city does not. We used a 44 gallon trash can to collect it and here is what it looks like.
Notice that I am even using the old onion bag to put the stuff in! Hubby at first didn't want to do this, but once he saw what we go through, he now wants to get a couple extra cans to collect in. In addition to not having to haul two full trash cans to the curbside every week, we now only take one can half full. Tonight we had BLT's for supper as we both didn't feel like cooking much since I was in the kitchen all day canning some meat. I had two big roast to do and was glad those are done. Here they are:
Well I should go for now. I need to get things done before heading for bed. Tomorrow we have to drive to Spokane for hubby's doctors appointment. He has to go in for an exam to see when they can redo his hernia. We are thinking the the mesh isn't holding and they need to go in and repair it again. It's a good thing we don't have to drive that every week or the gas would kill us. Will talk to you soon. |
