It's finally summer here, we are about to set record highs for tomorrow for our area! Today we were at 97 and tomorrow will be around 101. And just think, two weeks ago we had SNOW. We can also tell that summer is here with the bug zapper playing it's favorite tune at night, ZAP- ZAP- ZAP. I know that's one less mosquito that is going to bite me later on. It's 10:00 p.m. and I just finished watering the yard. I had to give it a good soak for the heat later. We also know it's summer when we have to retreat downstairs to the basement family room to watch a movie. If we stay upstairs, we stick to the leather recliners and become miserable. Even our poor cats have had a time with the heat. Heck, if they were smart, they would go lay down on the concrete floor in the laundry room. I know I would! As you know, I have been on a mission with my onions, as posted in my last entry. Well Saturday, I got one moree 50 pound bag done. I went ahead and peeled, chopped, and froze them. I regret to say, that both of my freezers now smell like onions and I am going to have to get the baking soda out to help the smell. I am going to wait on doing the last 50 pounds until the weather cools some. I borrowed a friends dehydrator cause mine is too small to do that much at one time. I am going to use it outdoors as to not heat up the house. This thing that she drug over to my house is an older style and hopefully it works. She bought it at a garage sell and has never used it, so we plugged it in and had it on for a while. It has about eight or nine racks and I think I will go online tomorrow and google the name of it. As for pictures, I did get some and will post when I get them downloaded and I will also post the temp, timing and what not. I need to take a picture of this dehydrator just in case I don't find it and someone out there knows about it. I am thinking that if I really like it and it works out, I might even offer my friend what she paid for it at the yard sale - $10.00. She doesn't even think she will ever use it, and if she does, she knows that I would be the one to help her with it anyways. Today our friends came over and loaded up their trailer with goodies that I have been keeping for them. We had old windows from when we replaced them along with some huge clay pots. Not good for our outdoor weather, but she just put up a big greenhouse and could use them. I also gave them some cedar boards that were cutoffs from when the fence was put in. He builds birdhouses and he can now go to town making those. I also gave them two new bags of a granular bug killer. She said that they are again being taken over with the grasshoppers in the yard. Last year they ate all of her flowers, so this stuff is suppose to help in that area. Oh, and she also took home a couple bags of onions! What are friends for. Now my shed and yard are starting to get cleaned up and in return for all of the trading, she is going to give me some of her chicks once I get my fence put around the chicken coop. Yeah, I can't wait. Well, I am going to head for bed. I am tired and hot. You know it's summer when your underwear sticks to you like glue |
