3 cups flour. ( I like 1/2 whole wheat and 1/2 unbleached white) 1 tsp. salt 4 tsp. baking powder 1 1/2 cup sugar. Wisk dry ingredients in bowl. In separate bowl place 1/2 cup vegetable oil 2 eggs 1 cup milk 1 tsp. vanilla blend wet ingredients till smooth, combine with dry ingredients, but don't over mix. Mixture will be lumpy. Pour into a floured 9 X 13 cake pan. In separate bowl blend until crumbly 1/3 cup cold butter 1/2 cup sugar (can use brown) 1 tsp. cinnamon Sprinkle on top of cake and bake at 350 for about 30 min. or until a knife inserted comes out clean. This will bring to any teenager or husband out of bed with in 20 min. It smells better than a Yankee Candle ENJOY

Cake for breakfast

Thats right, cake. I got up this morning and my house is freezing! Not like ice freezing, but cold. The kids didn't want to crawl out of their nice warm bed so I knew that I needed to act fast. After all, we have a lot of school work to get done today. So I did what any good mom would do, I bribed them. Not really. I just put a cinnamon crumb coffee cake in the oven. The crumb topping was made with real butter. It took about 15 min. for the smell to remove my worst protester from his warm bed. (I refuse to start the furnace before October 1st.) So, now with bellies full of homemade junk food, we will begin our day. Have a Really Blessed Day!!! Dawn

sewing list

I finally sat down and started a sewing list so I wouldn't be just sewing random things. My youngest really needs 2 new church dresses. Several school jumpers and skirts. She also needs 2 new slips. She is okay on jammies. The next one needs four or five new pair of winter pants, four or five new shirts, 2 pair of sleep pants. And 5 pair of boxers. The older boys I only make their boxers and sleep pants. But still that comes to about 15 pairs of boxers ann 6 more pairs of sleep pants. My oldest daughter at home needs 2 new skirts for church an 2 new blouses to go with them. She might need new jammies. My grandson just went fron an 18 mo. to a 2T, so he needs everything. 5 pair of play pants, 2 church pants. I usually buy his shirts. He needs jammies, both flannel and themmal for really cold nights. He needs a new coat. I need and new church dress and 2 new slips. I also need 2 new winter dresses. The US Army is outfitting my husband this winter so I don't have to sew anything there. So, thats 5 dresses, 3-4 jumpers, 4 skirts, 4 slips, 20 pair of boxers, 8 pair of sleep pants, 2 blouses, 7 pair of baby pants, 4 pair of baby jammies,and 4-5 shirts, and 1 baby coat. I have 2 dresses cut out. I'm doing great!

The first week

I have made it through the first week without my husband here. It always jars my senses about a week after he is gone. I think until then we are just trying to get everything going and set up. Once it is all in place and everyone is where they are suppose to be I get to sit back and say "Wait a Second", your are going to be gone how long? Well, I had one of those moments this morning. I just can't seem to snap out of it. Nothing is getting done today. It 2:00p.m. and I haven't even started the boys lessons today. Somebody slap me!! Okay, that is out of my system. I have to say, I appreciate all of the nice comments on the few things that I have managed to post. I haven't figured out much about navigating this thing and changing the background and what not. I am going to enlist a real pro as soon as my 15 year old gets time to help me. So look for a fresh new style. Hopefully it will be one that I like as well since I won't know how to change it. LOL Seriously, I do thank you for expressing your appreciation to my husbands duty. So many people don't realize that the freedom to protest and speak your mind is one of the very freedoms that these guys are fighting to protect. They are true heros in every sense on the word. They go knowing in the back of their mind that they may never set foot on this countries soil again. There is no second chance. I am fortunate this as he will be in a much safer place. He will not be in Iraq. Out oldest son just left there a week ago. I was never so happy. He will be in Germany for another year. I can't see or touch him, but I know that he is safe. That is all a mother can ask for. Once again, Thanks Dawn

Off and Running!!

{ 10:02, Wednesday, September 10, 2008 } { 3 comments } { Link }
I finally got my boys started on there new curriculum today! We are running really behind this year. Dad just left for training to deploy, so it's just me and the kids for the next 15 months or so. Thats a tall order since I still have 6 at home plus a grandson. The Fed-Ex man delivered the boy Apologia science curriculum today. I was sooooo excited. They are pretty much ready to go. The boys are using Saxon Math this year, Apologia for science, Pathway Readers and Vocabulary. That will also double as their spelling book. We are using various sources for Social Studies. I'm sure we will cover Health and I think we will go to the YMCA for physical activity. The winters here in Indiana make it difficult to enjoy much outside time for P.E. I also want to spend alot of time working on my Home Management Notebook. I really want to get things alot more organized in the next year. I would like to get the house more organized and comfortable for my husband when he returns. I will update on how that is going. I am so bless to have 15 months to accomplish this in. My way of looking at the glass half full. I would also like to loose about 45 pound in the next year. I think if I keep myself focused and busy the time will go much faster.

My New Blog

{ 01:46, Tuesday, September 2, 2008 } { 2 comments } { Link }
I started this blog to share some of the wonderful experiences of a Stay at Home Mom. Not everyday seems all that wonderful, but with the grace of God we make it through. First and always most importantly, I am a Christian. Second, I am a Wife. And last I am a mother. I believe that is the way that God ordained it to be, and I stand behind that belief. Staying at home did not use to be on my top 10 list. I have worked outside the home and really thought that I enjoyed this time. I was never really satisfied. Oh sure, we had more money. We also spent more money. We tried to make special time for the kids and our selves to be together. Now that time just happens the way that it is suppose to. We always talked about the time when we would have a great little garden. I just finished canning 26 quarts of Green Beans! The money that I save staying at home far out weighs the money that I made working. The house is cleaner. I am not as tired trying to juggle a job and a home. Now my home is my job. I don't feel demeaned in any way. My Husband is so much happier. He is more affectionate, appreciative, and helpful. The children are happier because they aren't begging for what little attention I can squeeze in. The truth is EVERYONE really is happier. Staying home is a WIN-WIN situation. I hope to show in the near future just how happy a woman can be staying home and being a keeper of her home. It is rewarding in ways no job outside my home ever was. It is biblical,and just.
