Eating well
I have a question for all of you homemakers. How do we go about feeding our families best with husbands who work outside the home? The best is good sized breakfast, main meal at mid day and lighter supper. This is the way humans had always eaten until the industrial revolution and now we have a huge rise in obesity and intake related disease. Can we get back to this part of healthier eating? Does anyone have any practical ideas? My husband takes left overs for lunch, but it is usually the previous night's dinner, then he is seldom home before 6pm. How do I feed him his main meal (the one most likely to contain meat) at noon? Is it just not possible and we'll just have to be content with eating healthy food, and not be concerned about what, when?

I do the same thing - pack mostly leftovers for my husband's lunch - then he eats more at night, which isn't the best - I think plenty of salads & fruit no matter what is the best. It also probably depends on how much physical labor is done to how much food is needed. Jill

He's a middle school math teacher, so it's lots of on his feet and talking but not too strenuous. However he's lost some pounds (which he can ill afford to lose) since he started teaching, so I need to keep him fed up!

We usually do the same as you. Left-overs for his lunch & sometimes ours (depending on how much there is) If there is no left-overs then he gets sandwich, chips, fruit & a sweet. On hot days he usually prefers the sandwich route.
I have thought about making our lunch meal like our supper, but I would have to get up extra early and cook a full meal in time to pack it up. I also like us all sitting together at night & enjoy our supper. However during hot months (they're right around the corner for us in LA) we will have alot of grilled foods, salads & sandwiches for suppers anyway.

Vicki, your eating and schedule sound much like ours, except in the summer it's much easier to eat a larger noon meal because then he is home.
You are probably planting your garden already aren't you!?

Okay, the Mr. is LOSING weight? How is that possible? Oh..I know...I noticed his left eyebrow was thinning a little...THAT must be it:P
He's about as skinny as Matt if not the same. I can't imagine either of them actually losing any more...Hmmmm...maybe I should get a job teaching, then I could lose a few pounds too! My right eyebrow is looking a little pudgy these days:P
Love and Hugs!
