EGG!

07:46 PM, Saturday, February 9, 2008 .. Posted in Chickens .. 4 comments .. Link

After not having eggs for the last couple of months, we were shocked when D found an egg tonight! What a nice surprise. We all clapped and looked at it like it was a golden egg when D brought it in.  lol

Yes, we could have put lights in the chicken house to try and force the chickens to lay. I just felt that if God made chickens to stop laying when the days are shorter, then the chickens must need a break from laying.

But I surely will be happy when we can stop buying eggs!

That is very exciting....I'm with you on letting the chickens take a break like God intended...but what joy when they start laying again.....we are still waiting for dh to build our first chicken coop.

Blessings,

Connie

It's wonderful to get a surprise like that. I don't have the room to keep chickens, but my Great Grandma raised many chickens to supply the community with fresh eggs. She kept the chickens laying year round by adding some crushed red pepper to their feed. I guess the peppers keep them warm and they keep laying. Anyways, I wouldn't know from experience because I have yet to be able to keep them. Here's to many more eggs for your family.
God Bless-

We are there too. We have 50 birds and get maybe 2-4 eggs a week. But that has been for about 3 weeks now. I do not like to buy eggs. I did make a find a clutch of eggs about 13 with a mean mommy on them! Just what I need more birds!!
God Bless, mj
