The color of spring...or rather goats:P

Blessings!

I figure it's fitting to write in green today. Why? Because...well...you'll see:P

Okay, first off, a couple days ago I went with my dear friend CaraDD and her girl and my two girls to our Nigerian Dwarf Mentor and encourager to have her new babies (or rather not so new) disbudded, my little buck banded and her buck and all the rest tattooed!

First thing was her buck, a sweet little thing and VERY perky at all times get's carsick:( Poor feller. He wasn't very happy but got over it quickly enough.

We get to the place a little early and wait. We let the big boys out to stretch and get some air and snacks (the bucks that is). It didn't take long before the folks showed up and we could get down to business.

I had never disbudded before and although I had no interest in trying it myself just yet, I wanted to see how it was done. I can safely say that I am not sure I will EVER be able to do that:P Okay, I probably will one day but hopefully not too soon:P I'm so afraid I'll do it wrong and have to do it more than once.

Have you ever seen it done? For those of you that DO it or have done it then you know that baby goats can scream louder than anything and sound like you are killing them! They scream, cry, choke and gag and scream some more. Mostly, from what the man that did it says, they scream because they are being held down and they don't like it. Although the burning does cause discomfort but it's quickly forgotten. I figured, right! SURE they forget...you know what?...they do! It wasn't but a few minutes before they were laying around and snoozing. I bet their little heads were aching a bit though:( By the next day I was told they were romping around like nothing happened!

It came time to band our boy. I wanted this man to take a good look at him for me before doing it though because I wanted to be sure we were doing the right thing. He disagreed with my reasons for having him banded and said if it was HIS goat he wouldn't do it. Sooooooooooo, our little man is still a little man:)

Then came tattooing! Oh my goodness! Okay, I can deal with the little fussing that the two bucks did and probably won't have a problem doing that myself. The thing was...the dye. You see when you tattoo you have to do it with a dye. There are two choices...black and green. The green shows up better on dark ears. So guess what we did? Yep...GREEN!

Our bucks aren't dark by any stretch but it's what these folks use and they were doing this gratis so we do whatever they like:) Besides, under the circumstances it really wouldn't have changed the outcome:P

It rained and hailed all that night. Yesterday morning when we rose to feed them, those cute little white bucks were...you guessed it...GREEN! From nose to tail green:P It looks like someone came over in the middle of the night and played a St. Patty's day trick on us:P I don't know if it will wash off or if it will have to fall out with their winter coat:P

Just for your entertainment and my comic relief, here's a couple pictures:P

So Miss Maddie, what do you think of your handsome Comet?:P And our fine Mr. Casper?:P

We had a great laugh over it ourselves and figure it's just another thing to chalk up to experience:P

Hope you enjoyed the giggle:)

God be with thee!

Sister Lori
