The wayward child

   Okay, so how many of you have a wayward child or know someone who does? This is a child that used to listen but no longer does. A child that can look straight at you then turn their back and do it anyway! A child with their own agenda who could care less about the consequences for their actions!

   I have one. She's cute and cuddly some days and other days I want to put her on a leash and tie her to a tree. She has become quiet beligerant and sassy. She won't come when called. She refuses to listen when you surely know what's best for her. She won't reason!

   Take yesterday...she was outside with the chickens and ducks. I called to her but she ignored me. I got a little closer thinking she simply hadn't heard me. Suddenly she turns and gives me "the look" and meanders to the other end of the pen. I call her again, knowing full well she has not only seen me but heard me too. She looks at me again and leaves out the other gate! ugh!

   She runs out to the barn. I follow her to see what mischief she is getting into. She starts to go into the barn but changes her mind and runs off into the woods towards the river. I figure she's going to her favorit place in the swimminghole. She loves to swim. It's a real break for her from the normal routines and we enjoy it as a family on hot summer days. But this is winter and I've noticed that last few days that she is coming in with wet and muddy feet.

   I follow through the trees and find her at the waters edge. The look in her eyes is obvious. She fully intends to plunge into the water despite the cold and wind. I tell her to "stop right there young lady". She turns and looks at me and does it anyway! Ugh!

   I snap a switch from the tree next to me and go after her. She runs back out through the trees knowing full well that I cannot run as fast and heads for the house. She knows she's still going to get the switch but doesn't seem to care at all!

   The back door is open and I see her heading for it. Soaking wet, muddy and I shout at her to stop! She slows down, turns to see me and slowly walks into the house. I follow her in and she slowly continues to walk toward the kitchen door where she opens it leaving a big mud mark on the door, wanders through the kitchen, leaving soaking muddy prints all over. She turns and looks at me one last time and crawls under my bed!

  Oh...did I mention that my wayward child is our English Springer?:P Darn dog!

She is my dog, and I think she is cute. Even if she did get me in trouble last night. You cannot say she does not have a sweet face. I think she was dropped on her head as a puppy, thats all.

She could blame it on her terrible childhood. She and her sisters were left at a dumpsite as young puppies. She may need medical (Mental) treatment for this. Who knows, one day we may read about how she was always being told what to do and never having a moments peace. How here mother gave her up. How we forced her to try and breed with strange dogs. She will be on medication for the rest of her life and it will not be her fault, but ours. (We can change her name to Brittany Spainel!)

Well just think about it. Who knows, it could happen.
