Blessings!

   Sometimes things happen that make me feel so very blessed to be where we are, living the way we do and night before last was no exception:)

   Our son and his new wife live in a small town in a duplex just half a block from his work. Anyway, this town is sort of a dirty little place with lots of "undesireables" in it. What I mean by "undesireable" is drug dealers and users, drinkers etc. More often than not someone is being arrested or chased for one reason or another. This is a SMALL town! Which just reminds us (sadly) that even small towns are not immune to the worldly influences.

   Anyway, Miss Sarah spent the night with her new sister-in-law. She has been a little out of sorts since Miss Mary-Ann is down in California so I thought it would give her something special to do and spend time with someone she enjoys spending time with.

   Imagine my surprise when the next day, when they got her home, I hear that the girls had been woken up by the police who were looking for the next door neighbors son who had not only torn up his mothers duplex but he slashed her tires and was hiding out somewhere. Scarey stuff.

   I will say that I am almost sorry I had allowed her to stay but on the other hand I am so glad that our Kristina wasn't alone during all that. Matthew works night shift and often is not able to be home until around 3am. Thankfully he works only half a block from their home but still. So dangerous.

   All this to say, I feel so blessed that we have been able to raise our children out in the country away from "towns". Not that we aren't away or are hiding our heads in the sand. We know that these things are happening everywhere but being out on 7acres away from the bustle of those places makes it less likely for us to be affected by it in a direct way. Even the children have said they are so glad that with all they hear about in towns and cities, they have always lived on the outside of it feeling safer and more in tuned with Gods mercy and guidance in their lives.

   So, our Sarah is home safe, and is still sleeping...exhausted from being up so late with worry. She came home yesterday just plum wore out:)

   I pray that all are having a very blessed Sabbath day and enjoying your families in the safety of your home:)

God be with thee!

We live in a very small town. It is more of a farming community. We live on about 150+arces. It is a family farm. My grandpa bought this farm 65 years ago. One of his neighbor decided to buy some land on the back side of the farm to make a small get away for families. There is a fishing lake. It was suppose to be a good place for families to go. When it first started out, it was a nice place. Well about 25 years ago it started going down hill. Now it is full of trouble makers and drug dealers and users. It makes me nervous because I never know when they will come down the holler and steal us blind. Or something worse. Like you said, even small town are not immune from this kinda of stuff. I hope your dd gets her rest. I hate she had to go though that. I say she is glad to be home. sheryl

Yes, indeed she is glad to be home and so are we:)
It's hard to understand how something like that can be going on where you are. Sad how something good can turn into something so wayward. Praying for your safety!
God be with thee!

opportunity

wow what a witnessing opportunity. I also live in a small town with lots of what most would consider "undesirables". But I look at it as an opportunity to be a light in a dark world. Many of those around me do not live a good life. But arent these the ones Jesus would always reach out to. There are also lots of children in our neighborhood and I believe this is where God has placed us to make a difference. I dont isolate my children from the other children who havent the proper teaching. (although I do only allow them to come to our yard and not the other way around for saftey) I have seen quiet a difference in some of these children and some have started coming to our church. Im hoping through the children we might reach the parents. I also look for ways to reach the parents .... I dont preach to them. I dont even mention church. I believe Im just here to plant the seeds and God will do the growing.

~~~Blessings!
I agree that Jesus reached out to such folks but remember He was perfect and therefore could and would resist temptation. The bible teaches us not to go out alone so that we are not lured into worldly ways (paraphrased).
I also agree that some folks are certainly Gods tools for areas like this, however, it isn't everyones calling. Each of us has our strengths in Him and He utilizes them for His good no matter what. For us our lifestyle seems to be the witness He desires from us.
It's wonderful that you are led to witness in your neighborhood in this way. I have such a respect for those who are able and willing to do this in the Lords name for His Glory.
As the bible says, Jesus is the head and we are all members of His body. Each of us working as we were intended to in His name:)
God be with thee!
I grew up in a small town, not even on the map small. We never locked our doors and we kids always felt safe running and playing the neighborhood. I married at 18 and moved to another town. I had my two babies with me one night while my dh was working and someone tried to break into my home. I saw his hand come in the door and try to unlock the chain latch. I screamed that I had a gun, which I didn't have and thankfully he left. I called the police and my mom to come and get me. I hated living there and we soon moved to the town I grew up in. I no longer live there either and where I am now thankfully my children and I do feel safe. I just hope I feel that was forever. But we all know forever is a strong word and that nothing last forever............Kitty
I can't imagine the fear you must have been in during that. I too grew up where we never locked our doors. Hobo's (don't care of that's not politically correct), used to come to our back door and ask to do a chore or two for a plate of leftovers. We would run beside the train as it meandered through our apple and pear orchards and throw cans of food up to them as they were traveling past. We would take out some fruit or leftovers in the night to sit by their campfire at the base of a tree and listen to their stories. Not anymore. We live in a world that we need to be careful of now. A world that calls to us but Jesus says to resist. Be IN the world not OF it. It's so easy to slip that way, I'm sure glad the Lord brought us to where we feel safe and protected by His Hand:)
