It All Begins with a Pumpkin:P

I actually posted this last year on October 25, 2007 but I've had several folks ask if I would repost this so I am moving it here since it's the season for it:) I pray you enjoy!

Blessings!

   Our Mary-Ann made the most tastey and pretty pie and I wanted to share it with you:)

It All Begins With A Pumpkin!

Cut one pie pumkin in half, remove seeds, cover with foil and bake for 1 hour (350F).

While it's baking prepare your favorite pie crust. Make it pretty now:)

When pumpkin is ready, pull out and scoop out the meat. Mash it up really well. Measure out 1 1/2 cups pumpkin mash and add 1 C. Sugar, 1/2 tsp Cinnamon, 1/2 tsp ginger, 1/2 tsp allspice, 1/2 tsp nutmeg, 1/2 tsp ground cloves and dash of vanilla, 1 2/3 cup sweet condensed milk and 2 eggs. Mix until smooth.

Pour into unbaked 9" pie crust and place on cookie sheet to guard against spilling while baking.

Bake 15 minutes at 450F and another 45 minutes at 325F.

While pie is baking you can make some decoration to spruce it up if you like. Here she made some stars.

The seeds never go to waste. Take the seeds gathered from the inside of the pumpkin and place in collander and rinse thoroughly.

Prepare the cookie sheet with a little foil over the top and sprinkle with a bit of coarse salt to prevent seeds from sticking.

Place seeds across the pan and place in hot oven (400F). Watch them carefully so they don't burn. The hot oven bakes the outsides to nice and golden brown and crunchy while the meat of the seeds stays nice and soft.

And there you have it. A wonderful fall treat:)

God be with thee!

How BEAUTIFUL! Well done, Mary-Ann! (And very lovely photos as well.) I baked too many for our harvest party and we're STILL eating it, LOL.

Amy

~~~She has such an artistic eye, doesn't she? She says that her baking is like a canvas and she loves to make works of art:)
I do hope those pies didn't spoil before getting to enjoy them all:) We make pies and freeze them before baking. Then we pull them out when desired and bake just a few minutes longer than normal to allow for the defrosting:)
You are quite the industrious woman to bake all that you did for your party. What a blessing you are to others:)
God be with thee!
That was only the most perfect pie crust ever. Great job. I have something growing in my garden that I thought was a pumpkin. I noticed yesterday that it never turned orange. So I asked someone was he thought and he said it looks like a cross between and watermelon and pumpkin. LOL I think I will post it on my blog tomorrow. come by and tell me what you think it is, LOL.
Kitty
~~~We've had mutants in the garden from time to time. In fact, I planted purple kale nex to my cauliflower one year and got the most beautiful purple cauliflower! It made the veggie platter look quite colorful and lovely too:)
I wonder if you could make a pie out of something like that. Now THAT could be interesting:P What would you call it? Wumpkin? Pumelon? Wapumperelon? :P
Let me know what it turns out to be:)
God be with thee!

~~~Thank you for saying such kind things. She is so shy and doesn't really think she's all that good at this sort of thing. Your words were quite a lift for her. Thank you:)
Oh...she says "Teas on!":)
Hello!
{ 19:51, Saturday, November 3, 2007 } { Posted by addiema }
That has to be the most perfect pie crust I have ever seen. I would love to see her do a tutorial on making that pie crust. Beautiful pie! My hubby is a huge pumpkin pie fan.
~~~I have told her that no matter what she is doing in the kitchen she MUST take step by step pictures so I can share them and the instructions here. I am trying to encourage her to start her own blog here but so far she's just too shy to give in:) I think folks would enjoy seeing what she does. I told her that she doesn't have to talk about herself or anything, she could just make it a "how-to" blog and simply share her cooking and baking. We'll see, perhaps she'll give in soon:)
She DID say she'd do the "Pie Crust Tutorial" though and let me post it here:)
God be with thee!
