A journey in time

Blessings!

I wanted to share my ponder of our trip down to California to pick up our grandsons. I am always overwhelmed by my ponders during long trips. I seem to be never finished with my ponders. Perhaps the Lord speaks to me in this way and I need to listen a little closer:)

   My journey as I ponder...

As we meander through the hills, first west then east, then west again, my mind can't help but wander into the realms of my past. Memories awaken in the rhythm of the tires meeting unseen obstacles causing a gentle sway that lulls the vehicles occupants into a drowsy state as their bodies rock to and fro in a gentle, synchronized dance of daydreams.

Here and there, homesteads appear, dotting the landscape. Some new, giving a sense of hope for future generations and some old, reminding me of a past too soon forgotten.

My thoughts are interupted at the insistance of my family as they are awed by the clouds that drape themselves about the tops of the majestic mountains that surround this untouched valley, like a crown of heavens gentle kiss.

I am, once again, carried away by fond remembrances of my childhood. The apple orchards, cornfields, and citrus groves, stretching beyond our sights. Places where castles were built, dragons slayed, and fair maidens with flowing tresses are carried away to far off kingdoms.

As we crest the top of the mountain pass we see a new valley lain before us. Unfamiliar and unfriendly. Chattering erupts from the back and contemplative converstaion takes hold.

It hsa been many years since we have visited this concrete world. Whisps of memories emerge and my heart is filled with a comforting peace as our Heavenly Father assures me that eleven years ago we made the right choice for our family.

The children share what few memories they still have of this world. Observations made about lifestyles, clothing and unfriendly faces. They are saddened for those whose faces have not borne a tender look in what seems a lifetime.

We arrive and locate our lodging for the night. After settling into our rooms we take a moment at the pool to cool off in the muggy heat of an evening. Letting the stiffness and aches wash away in the coolness of the water. A sense of joy fills me as the curious stares turn our way. Clearly we do not belong. The children, being quite used to such things, take no notice.

After bathing and preparing for bed we gather together for our evening vespers. Each of us, taking turns, giving thanks for our travel mercies, and the opportunity the Lord provided us, to have our grandsons for the next month. Our hearts were truly blessed to hear each of our children thank the Lord for leading our family away from worldly living and temptations.

The Lord is so good to give us these glimpses into the hearts of our children. Giving us confirmation and hope. We did the right thing. Thank you Lord!

For those who have left behind the world to journey on toward a life lived for Him, He assures us in the little things. Be sure to listen...He's always speaking:)

God be with thee!

Yes, we also called it the "Land of Concrete". We are blessed also to be amongst the green woods and fresh air.

Blessings,
Keri

~~A blessing indeed. I wonder, sometimes, if this computer is our last link to that world:s

As you described the trip, I could almost "see" the pictures your words were creating. We also have left the "concrete world". What a blessing to have been able to do so.

How beautiful to read about your family's prayers. It is wonderful that they see the blessings of living away from the concrete world also.

Paula

~~I am blessed! It is truly inspiring and gives me such hope to see our children coming under their own submission with the Lord in their lives.
God be with thee!

I think that you should write a book! I would buy one! ~Smile~ You have such a beautiful talent for writing.
Blessings,
Miki

~~Funny you should say so...Brother Craig said the same thing a year ago and well...it's still in the works:) I don't know that anyone will buy it but it's fun to give it a whirl:)

I agree with Miki, you should write a book. I for one would love a copy of everything you write, it is all soooo inspirational. Thanks for sharing. Next time I'm driving through Alabama and see nothing but the highway, I will try to find SOME beauty in it, LOL.

~~You are too kind:) I have been in the process of writing one for the last year. Who knew it would take so long:P
I tend to let my mind wander into my little girls mind of memories and daydreams. It whiles away the hours and it seems it's part of my walk with the Father.
I'm blessed you enjoy it:)
God be with thee!
