Small TownsBlessings! Before we moved here we lived in a township with a population of 112. In fact, I think when our family moved there it was a major population explosion:P We moved here in November and to us this place is HUGE as far as townships go. It's not really all that big but for us it seemed that way. Today I was reminded of how small it really is and how much Small Town Community Support means to a lot of folks afterall. Today was the beginning of our town Rodeo. It's only for the weekend but this town makes a HUGE deal about it. It's sort of like when the Circus comes to town:) At 10am folks lined all sides of the streets. They closed everything down from the main highway through the entire main street of town (including some residential parts). We were out and about attending our City Wide Yard Sale at 8. Anyway, we were heading back to some other areas where there were some barn and garage sales we were stopped as they shut everything down for he parade. Most folks that were having their sales even closed down for this:P We pulled up and parked the car. Got out to find a place to sit to watch the parade. As the first float came down the Central folks were cheering and children were racing after the handfulls of candy they throw for them. All of 15 minutes and 5 floats (of varying sizes) a handful of horses, cows, goats and bicycles and of course, the mayor, it was over. I was speaking to a woman that has lived here all of her life. She was telling us how much she looks forward to this every year. 15 minutes of excitement and community spirit. It was such a thrill to see that community means something to the folks here. 15 minutes that the road was completely shut down. 15 minutes of hundreds of folks with their children covering the sidewalks with very little standing room left. 15 minutes of cheering. 15 minutes of community spirit. I am blessed:) I just wanted to share our morning. Remember that no matter how small or large your community is, there can always be community spirit even in the small things:) God be with thee!
